Re: Car insurance coverage amount

Thanks. I was thinking of adding onto what I already have, from 100/300. Also SUM insurance is supposed to be important.

We have full coverage and then some. With 2 young drivers in the house we take no chances. If you have any assets or even a decent paying job, having minimum coverage is very risky, IMO

Yes, SUM coverage is very important. If you get injured in an accident with someone who has no insurance or not enough coverage to cover your damages, you can collect from your own policy

Re: Car insurance coverage amount

I have full coverage on my SUV because it's newer and still has a lot of value but my DH's car is 13 yrs old and pretty much worth nothing so we have minimum coverage on his as per Geico's recommendation. Basically, we don't carry any collision on that car, if it gets totaled we don't care, it's only worth about $500-1000 at this point.

Car insurance coverage amount

You asked amount.
I carry the highest I can buy, in this case it's $500k combined single limit.

Coverage type is ALWAYS full coverage on both my vehicles at all times. The cost savings per month vs having to just lose my car with nothing to show for it makes it an easy decision.

That's my 2001 and my 2011 14yr old truck is actually in the shop right and it's a pain but thankfully repairable. If I were to just lose it one day due to an accident *I* caused, it was stolen, it was damaged by a person who drove away (given it's low value) it was seriously mess us up. You may not care if it has minor dents and dings but if it's totalled so easily and the party who did it isn't around, it will piss you off.

All for like less than $100 a year? Mine was $40. Theoretically it's less the insurance company will pay out. They only pay after depreciation. Liability (the limits you were asking about) is the cost factor regardless of age of your car.
