can't find a decent rocker/ottoman

i've looked everywhere!

my requirements are that it's soft (duh!), has a high back so my head is comfortable and can be made to stand still

the best one i found was at BRU but it was $700 which to me is insane! i've checked target, walmart, sears, lazyboy and BBB.

anyone have any suggestions? i don't want to buy a $700 chair/ottoman but can't find the "right" chair. the brand is dutailier, which i know is great, but i know there have to be cheaper ones out there that are just as nice.

UPDATED: I found one!! $250 at BRU--they even gave me a discount! it's a shermag and i can't wait to put it together. i couldn't rationalize $700 for a chair. now i can use the extra $500 for more important items for the baby. thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I have to tell you that we have the dutailier and love it. It is so comfortable and since I rock DD all the time it was well worth it!

We randomly found one at Costco and love it! It is made by Shermag, but is a different model than the other Shermags I have seen. It was about $250 with the ottoman!!!!

We got a Dutailier from BBB. We got a very basic one (but we added a lock and the stain guard) and skipped the ottoman. I got a nursing stool for my feet. It ended up costing about $500 after we used a coupon. Although it is more than we wanted to spend, it is custom made so we got to choose the wood color and fabric and I was unable to find anything else that matched.

I swore I would not spend a lot of money on a glider. Then I sat in the Dutailier. It is incredible and I would spend the money again in a heartbeat. I spend a lot of time in that glider and because of the quality it is a piece that we will have long after our babies are babies.

DH and I are about to pick ours up today from Behrs. They have like 30 different types of Dutailier gliders in their showroom and while we weren't happy with the price, we loved sitting on them. We couldn't stomach the price at first, but we're making this our "splurge" purchase. We both found it totally comfortable.

DH's cousin ordered a Shermag from Target's web site. For around $200+ it comes with both the glider and ottoman. Hers is totally comfortable!

I have two Dutailier gliders. I was hesitant about getting the second one but when I compared the one I had with other brands, there was a such a big difference that I opted to go with anothe Dutailier.

We registered for a Shermaq. My only two must haves in an rocker was that the back was higher than me and DH so that we could rest pur heads back without straining our neck. The other must have was a matching ottoman.

We went to BRUS in Commack yesterday and they had a lot of rockers on clearance. It's worth checking out.

shermag is the the one they used at kmart and i know they run baby sales here and there for a glider with ottamon for 89.99 not sure the quality. i would post on parenting to ask.

I highly recommend the Shermag that I got at Target.com. It's very affordable and sooo easy to assemble. Literally assembled in less than an hour. It gives me great back and head support. And then after I feed my DS, I switch it to the rocker mode to help him sleep.

I waited until Target had an offer for free shipping on orders over $125.

I had bought my New Dutalier glider off of craiglist (back in 2006) for $260
I would check there or ebay - you might find one cheaper that way.

Have you tried regular furniture stores? Maybe you could find a nice rocker/ recliner at LazyBoy or something. You are not limited to baby stores. Baby stuff is rossly over priced anyway.

We bought a La-z-boy rocker recliner and it is SOOO comfortable. I used to sleep in it all the time. I don't remember how much it cost exactly, but I think it might have been around $400. I'm trying to decide if I should buy another chair for DD because I still use the chair in DS's room all the time.

My Best Chair Storytime series chair was $500. It just arrived and I luuurv it. In order to justify the price I ordered it in a cranberry color that goes with my living room. If it holds up well, I can use it next year in the living room instead of in the nursery.

Don't worry. DH wanted one desperately and I refused to cave and spend that kind of money. Well, it worked out because we got an awesome glider & ottoman on clearance from BRU (it's a Shermang) for under $200 with a coupon.
