I think it's random? You can tell which way they will go by the way the stripes are on the candy
If the 4th candy that you connect is done horizontally than the stripe is going to be horizontal if you connect it vertically the candy is going to be vertical

so if you make four across by switching the matching candy into making a left / right line you get a left/right stripe, if you connect four up and down ways then you get a vertical stripe.
Mix a stripe with a sprinkled ball and get random stripes on all candies of the original striped candy color that you mixed with.

Candy Crush woes
Ugh.....I beat level 65 (finally!) and it advanced me to 66 where I need tickets from friends. When I click on ask friends it doesn't do anything! Why?? Lol. I'm so frustrated it took me like a month to beat 65 and now I can't move on!!

ok try turning your phone on and off. see if that works.

Oofah!! It took a long time and a lot of luck...I think I had a wrapped candy and a striped candy and that cleared a lot of the board and the stuff just dropped down.

Just keep trying. I found 149 a lot harder.
