Can you teach me how to put my NB to bed?? Esp. BF moms...

He has never slept, at night, without me. He and I are crashing on the pull out couch in the den b/c we were all sharing the dining room due to construction.

Soon, very soon I hope, we're moving back upstairs and we'll get some normalcy back. But, I don't know how to do this. Do you put your NB down awake? Nurse him, let him fall asleep and transfer? If you nurse until he falls asleep - how long do you wait before transferring?

Any other BF moms with NBs have advice? Chelle??

Well i can tell you what i do but it DEFINITELY doesnt mean its right LOL

I nurse DS and usually he is "milk drunk". At that point i re-swaddle him and gently place him in his basinet. He will then sleep until his next feed.

I have no idea if im establishing a bad habit of nursing him to sleep but im not doing it to make him go to sleep. Im doing it to feed him and he happens to fall asleep bc hes a NB i guess.

DS is 4 months now. Mostly he's either nursed to sleep or we rock him until he falls asleep in our arms. The transfer happens whenever we feel he's REALLY out - ie, his breathing becomes a bit more regular, if you pick up his arm it drops right down to his side, he hasn't flinched in a while, etc. A lot of times we put him down a few times and have to pick him back up again before he's really asleep. That said, this morning I attempted a bit of cry it out for his morning nap and although it took 15 minutes, he fell asleep from going into his crib awake. Then about an hour ago he fell asleep while I fed him and I put him down fully expecting his eyes to open as soon as he hit the sheets and he didn't even stir! (although it is nearly 11pm here)

Good luck!

When he was a NB I nursed him until he fell asleep. Stuck in the paci and then put him to bed. He usually stayed asleep.

Same here, I still do most of the time and DD is 4 months. But if she doesn't fall asleep nursing now, I put her in the crib and she falls asleep on her own after about 5 minutes.

What we do here for the actual "bedtime", which is anywhere from 9-10:30...I will BF her....she's usually having her major gas back up. So DH is usually working out her gas (bicycling her, rolling her on his knee...etc etc.) After that episode she usually passes out...we swaddle her - A MUST...and in the crib she goes.

When and IF the gas back up stops and she isn't being swaddled anymore...I will BF her...rock and burp her til she falls asleep. Give her about 10-15 of complete sleep on me... then transfer her into the crib...and hope to got it works!

This is how the middle of the night feeding goes for me.

She will still be swaddled (no I do not unswaddle and change) I will nurse her and burp her all while being swaddled - Miracle Blanket style - and she'll fall right back asleep and go back in the crib.

I never let Yael fall asleep nursing. I employ the EASY method to help her learn to disassociate food with sleep, and to learn to fall asleep on her own (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You time). Since she was born, I always feed her right after she wakes up from a nap, then we play for an hour or so, and then when I see her sleepy cues (staring off to the distance, rubbing her eyes, first yawn, turning away from toys, etc.), then I put her in her crib, darken the room, turn on the noise machine and her aquarium and walk out.
