Re: Can you fly pg?
Yes. It depends how far along you are. It is safest during your second trimester.

Up to 8 months
although I can't imagine that would be v. comfortable. I flew at 16 weeks and thought I wasn't going to make it to Florida- just couldn't get comfortable in the seat and my back was killing me.

Re: Can you fly pg?
I have heard that the airlines have regulations.
I would guess the length of the flight would be a big consideration as well as how the mom-to-be feels.
I flew 9 hours to Poland this summer and it was okay.

Re: Can you fly pg?
It is dangerous to fly in you first trimester as it can result in miscarriage and i do know women who it happened to. Just a warning.
My Dr encourages NOT to fly at all during pregnancy but you if really have to it's best to do it during second trimester.

Re: Can you fly pg?
I did at 10-11 weeks for my husband's graduation. It was to Arizona, later to Vegas and then back to New York from Vegas. I can tell you that it was not fun for me. Mainly because I had to keep going to the bathroom and there was a huge line that spanned half the plane to use the only 2 bathrooms available! I started to cry at one point from sheer discomfort. It all depends on how far along you are. Just prep yourself any way you can for any discomfort you may feel.
ETA - I know every doctor is different about what they do and do not recommend. I did ask my OB prior to going and he said it was fine to fly at that point. I would check with your doctor before doing anything.

The mayo clinic article posted above in this thread says flying does not cause miscarriage but could cause pre-term labor during the third trimester. I have also read many books/articles and never came across this. But what you say concerns me in general... can you elaborate on this at all?

I haven't heard of flying causing miscarriages specifically....maybe bringing on labor if it's almost time (late in 3rd tri) anyway, but that wouldn't directly correlate to a m/c.

Re: Can you fly pg?
My doctor said you can fly while pregnant - but not in the 9th month. He is very laid back - I dont have any plans to fly in my 8th month, but I might be flying in my 5th.

Re: Can you fly pg?
I flew many times during my entire pg until 32 weeks. My dr. said to stop then. i flew 3-4 times in the first trimester and have never heard that it can cause a miscarriage. If it makes you feel better, you can check with your doctor.

Re: Can you fly pg?
I've never heard of it either. I'm sure my friend with 2 kids would be interested in hearing it. Her husband is a pilot. She flew almost every weekend until the airline restricted in in the last trimester.

I read this articlehttp://pregnancy.about.com/cs/travelduringpreg/a/aa052299.htm
It mentions studies about first trimester flying.
