Can you break into a house through a skylight?

I have a one story house and am so paranoid about making sure everything is locked at night but I was wondering last night if someone can break in through my skylight if they are on my roof.

eta - obviously I know you can break in my breaking the glass, but I mean is there a way to pop it open from the outside,.

Probably, but I doubt a crook is going to risk climbing onto your roof where he can be seen from pretty far away, then drop 10 feet or maybe more and risk injuring himself.

THey did it once on the show It takes a Thief...I think the homeowner had a ranch and the thief used his garbage pails to get on the roof.

You can take a sledgehammer, and go through the wall in less than a minute.....

I doubt someone would try and pop open a skylight, though. Like a PP mentioned, it's risky climbing on the roof, and most skylights don't open anyway, so it's a big risk climbing up there just to find out that it doesn't even open. I guess if you can see that it's open from the ground, you could try it, but I still think a ground-floor window is much easier.

Try not to get too paranoid about "what ifs"... Chat Icon
