can we talk umbrellas?
Yesterday I got soaked despite my umbrella. My mini tote that I keep in my bag doesn't cut it for real rain, and now it broke anyway.
I think I need 2-- 1 big one for the days you know are going to be really bad, and 1 small one that I can keep in my bag for unexpected showers, or expected light rain/drizzle.
Anyone have funky umbrellas that they recommend? Or a know a good place to get them (online, because I never manage to get out and shop.)
Also, do those bubble umbrellas work well? I saw a few people with them yesterday and was a bit jealous.

Im also wondering about the bubbles as well. It must be a pain in the neck carrying it once it is closed bc it doesnt fit in a bag...but it does look like it keeps you dry.

get a golf umbrella.. it's a pain to hold but you (and like 3 other people) will not get wet

My husband got a golf umbrella that folds up to nothing. I haven't heard any reviews yet. I got it off Amazon.

If you're going to weild your umbrella as a weapon... Do what I do with these people..... push the umbrella over their head so they get wet. How hard is it to raise the umbrella just a little bit so someone else doesn't get poked in the eye???

Oh, I do.  I loathe golf umbrellas if you're not golfing.

Same...it's already hard enough to walk with tourists getting in your way. Big umbrella's like this don't belong on the Manhattan sidewalks

I got one a few weeks ago at the Hudson News stand in Penn Station... its a Black Totes with polkadots... its heavy as hell but sturdy... and its a bit oversized which is nice sometimes and sucks other times...

I watched a girl walk and slam someone else in the head with her umbrella yesterday didnt even turn and say sorry or anything... but the girl that got hit didnt flinch either lol
But i ALWAYS hold my umbrella over peoples heads and i take fold it up if im walking under scafolding

Thanks all. I don't think I can do the golf unbrella. I do work in the city and it's hard enough with a small umbrella--moving it up, down, left, right, all trying to avoid people. I think I'm going to give one of those bubble umbrellas a try. They don't seem to take up that much room on the street.

The bubble umbrella I have been using for a few years just broke and I ordered a new one. My only complaint is that the plastic sometimes sticks together when its closed so if you havent used it in a while its hard to open initially.
