can we talk about poop?
umm I am terrified of pooping while in labor. This happened to so many of my friends and they said its no big deal because you dont even think about it while you're pushing...but I feel like I would DIE!!

At that point, you don't know it. Many do it and it's expected. It is what it is!

Re: can we talk about poop?
I just talked to my cousin this morning who gave birth last week she was so afraid of pooping on the table. She told me that she could not have cared less and just kept going "I POOPED I POOPED! Someone clean me please! I POOPED!"

Re: can we talk about poop?
I've been in labor twice and I understand how it's a thought. But believe me when the time comes to push your baby out your just going to want the baby to come out and be done with things. Labor is a messy process but worth it in the end...poop and all. Just remember if it happens that the doctors and nurses have seen it all!

Re: can we talk about poop?
It's funny my sister and SIL were telling me about giving birth. My SIL had natural and my sister csections. My sister asked SIL if she pooped and SIL said no. My brother was in the other room and goes..."uhhh, yeah you did." SIL had NO IDEA, she was shocked. My nephew is eight years old and she just found out. My DH is worried I will but what am I gonna do?

I cant even see how you would even know...I mean seriously your in such a state of mind of "GETTING YOUR BABY OUT" that sh!tting is not even a concern. I had 2 vaginal births and I have absolutely NO clue if I did or not..nor do I give a "crap". I do know there is a slide that gets tucked under your butt into a basin..lol for all the "stuff" that comes out of you. With my first I was holding in what I thought was poop for at least an hr.. it turns out that was my kid!!!

I agree. Pooping was honestly the last thing on my mind. I just wanted her out.

You most likely wont know it is even happening. I agree too all you want it that baby out you dont care what happens and who sees. As long as the baby is safe and so are you.

ITA. The doctors and nurses have seen it all. My DH on the other hand, has not. I don't want him anywhere near there for that reason

Yeahhh I actually just mentioned this thread to my dh and he said he'd rather be dead. I rest my case.

Re: can we talk about poop?
I had the urge to go while laboring. Called a nurse and it was taken care of. It's a part of life. They've seen it plenty of times. But gosh I felt so much better and glad it happened before it was time to push.

I didn't poo but then again, DS came with only two pushes. He was coming whether I pushed or not.

Re: can we talk about poop?
I pooped and high fived my husband... I was proud bc it meant that I was pushing properly. The baby's head smooshed your colon and pushes out whatever is in there. I means that you are pushing effectively. Granted, most women don't have my reaction, but remember that it is what your body is supposed to do, and the nurses/docs won't have any reaction other than saying you're doing well.

My MIL told me to ask for an enema before hand if I wanted to decrease my chances of having an accident.

I didn’t poop, but I told the nurse I felt like I had to and that’s when they knew I was really ready to push. And trust me, as a BTDT…You won’t give a crap (pun intended) if you do.

Re: can we talk about poop?
No one ever said I did but I know I did. The Nurse was amazing and held the sheet up to block everything (this is how I know I did poop). Then she swiped it away very fast without anyone seeing and put a new sheet under me.
Love the nurses in L&D!!!
Honestly at that point pooping didn't even phase me. I just wanted the baby out.

I was afraid of pooping too and honestly don't even know if I did. My dh says I didn't. But at that point you do not care! And if you try not to poop you won't be able to push properly.I was actually trying to poop bc I swear if I didn't know better I would say the baby was coming out of my butt! Hahaha

Re: can we talk about poop?
You really have no idea when/if it happens! I think I may have because I vaguely remember the nurse saying something about cleaning up while I was pushing- but I'm not even sure!
Seriously- in the moment- it's the LAST thing on your mind!

Re: can we talk about poop?
I don't think they'd tell you that you pooped unless you asked. You have to push like you're pooping to get the baby out, but if you have an epi, who knows what else is coming out.
DH said I didn't poop with any of my kids-not that I would have cared because a HUMAN BEING was coming out of a hole the size of a quarter!
