Re: can someone answer a few questions for me

I avoided Splenda and artificial sweeteners. Sometimes, I would have a sip here and there of diet soda, but not too much. The doctor said they were OK, but not the best. I felt I should avoid it all together. Tea is OK, just watch the caffeine. I have one cup of coffee a day, so one cup of hot tea should be fine.

Re: can someone answer a few questions for me

i drink a cup of tea at night, usually 5 times a week (less now that it's getting hot out) and i'm staying away from all soda together , although i have had about 5 glasses of coke for the entire pregnany. sweeteners always gave me headaches to start with so that hasn't been a problem. i'd ask your doctor, they're the ones who should know exactly whats good and not

1. Is it ok to drink hot tea ? I think as long as it's decaf you're ok

2. Is it ok to use SPLENDA? Conflicting reports, but I think it's best to stay with real sugar

3. Is it ok to have Sierra Mist Free and diet sprite? Non-diet soda's are supposedly better as they contain real sugar as opposed to splenda, nutra-sweet or aspartame.

I just read that tea has between 15-25 mg of caffeine in a cup
and coffee has 155mg of caffeine in a cup

I too used to believe that tea had more but when I got PG, I looked it up and found the same thing as you -- 150mg of caffeine per cup of coffee, and 25-50mg of caffeine for a cup of tea (depending on how long you steep it).

1. Tea is fine

2. Splenda is safe -- it does not cross the placenta into the baby

3. I would avoid Sierra Mist Free and Diet Sprite as they are made with Nutrasweet, which is aspartame. I was told it is not UNSAFE, but just another chemical being added to the body.
