Can I use these items?

I'm hoping to join this board in 15 days!! I have two questions that came up this weekend from people giving me advice.

One said I can not use wipes for the first month and that I needed to use wet wash cloths. Is this true?

The other said you can not use sun screen for the first 6 months. Is this true?

I used wipes when I came home from the hospital. I can't remember what we used when we were in there.
My Ped said no sunscreen for the first 6 months but then said if we NEEDED to, to get a special kind. I can't remember what it was but there weren't any chemicals in it. I used it twice when he was 5 months old.

You aren't supposed to use sunscreen under 6 months. I used it when we were at the beach for a few days when DD was 4 months bc it was impossible to keep her legs covered in the stroller. I put it on her legs a few times and she ended up with eczema right after. I don't know if there's a relation but she'd never had a problem before that.

Can I use these items?

Dd is three months and we are stil using warm water on a wash cloth or paper towel. The hospital and pediatrician originally said we could use wipes at 2 weeks but D&d got diaper rash do we are sticking with the water for a bit longer

For DS, we used the wet clothes for like 10 days, but that got old really quickly, lol. We switched to wipes.

I was told 6 months for sunscreen, but I did it at 5 months. i made sure the main ingredient was Zinc Oxide. He was fine. No breakouts or anything weird. Before then, i did my best to keep him in the shade.

I never heard you couldn't use wipes...in fact, they use wipes from day one in the hospital! They have them along with the diapers for you to change them.

Sunscreen after 6 months.

I took a lot of the dry cloths thay you use in the hospital and wet with water. I used them for about 2 weeks before i ran out. After that I use alcohol free wipes (sensitive)

We have two boys, both of whom were circumcised in the hospital. We were told not to use wipes until the circumcision healed. So probably by the time they were 5-7 days old, we were using wipes (Pampers sensitive).

Yes, 6 months for sunscreen. Just keep them covered/ in the shade before then.

They use wipes in the NICU on preemies, I think it'll be fine on your full term baby

I'm not sure about sunscreen.

No sunscreen is true. Make sure to put your newborn DC in light weight long sleeve cotton clothing, a hat and sun glasses when you are outside during the summer. Some kids do run hot, so see how your DC feels and go by their needs but in the AC it can feel really cold to them.

As for wipes, we used the paper wipes the hospital gave us and then purchased the same kind at BRU. I kept a small dish of warm water to soak the wipe before using it. I then switched to sensitive pampers wipes for my kids when they were one month old. On this board I am in the minority for this based on past q&a's but we have very sensitive skin in our family. What works for one might not be right for another. I never used a wipe warmer though. HTH and good luck!

Sunscreen - no

Wipes we used as soon as we got home... I couldn't even tell you what brand... we got a ton at DH's "man party" during my shower and I have gone through a few different types already with no issues.

Wipes: the baby's skin is so sensitive, my ped. Told me no wipes in the beginning. We used bounty paper towel and warm water.

Sunscreen: didn't put it in my DS til he was 2. As babies, they have a high surface area and sunscreen has chemicals that they can absorb along that surface area.

In the hospital we used the dry wipes and would wet them but as soon as we got home I used the Pampers sensitive wipes with DD's. With DS we used the dry wipes longer due to his circumsition.

I brought wipes to the hospital with me. Opinions on this will differ, but I used wipes with all of them from day 1.

Papmpers Sensitive wipes the day we got home from the hospital, although I did loot a lot of their dry wipes just in case. DS was born at the end of August, so sunscreen was not an issue, bit I would stick to the 6 mo rule on that.

I used wipes since they came home- no issues. The hospital uses these paper towels things that you wet.

Not sure about sun screen though. I hardly ever leave the house, let alone WITH both of them lol.
