Re: Can I take Advil...
I personally wouldn't take advil. If you can, take tylenol, that is supposed to be safe if you are pg.

Re: Can I take Advil...
If tylenol works... take it! But you can take Advil because if you are PG, nothing is crossing over to the baby yet.

Tylenol seems to be working... thank god! It finally kicked in a little while ago and took the edge off the headache. Thanks!

I'm sure you can take it during the 2 ww, but I personally would not want to take the risk when there is a perfectly safe alternative. Maybe I'm overly cautious.

Yeah. But tylenol makes me vomit. I even took two advil for a killer headache when I was pregnant. My OB OKed it.
Honestly, two advil won't hurt you.

I'm actually allergic to Tylenol too (makes me puke and break out in a severe rash which has landed me in the ER), but I'm not pg yet, so I'll cross that bridge once I get to it!

Re: Can I take Advil...
I am still confused, if it's an inhibitor wouldn't you want it to stop the chemical that causes valve problems??

Ibuprofen, and all NSAIDs inhibit prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are necessary for certain functions in the body. One of the problems with the heart, is that there is a duct that is supposed to close at birth, and sometimes, if you've been taking NSAIDs close to delivery, that duct is not able to close properly. It can be fixed surgically, but why risk that? Also, these drugs can "thin" the blood like aspirin does which can cause problems during delivery. According to the book Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation, ibuprofen is considered category B (relatively safe, the same category as Tylenol) early in pregnancy, but D (should be avoided) late in pregnancy. Once in a while if you need it, it is probably ok, but if you can do without the Advil, Aleve, etc. it is probably best while PG. HTH.
