This!. Sounds more like jsut a fun thing to do. At 40 I don't do birthdays with everyone anymore....and the half bday is kinda weird and I would probably  if a friend did it.
Sorry just my opinion.
ITA. I don't celebrate my birthday outside of my immediate family and haven't in years. I know a few people who still do but I think a half birthday is pretty unusual for an adult. Just do it as a random trip. You can call it your half birthday trip for yourself and DH though if you want.
