Can an ectopic pregnancy resolve itself?
Here is why I am asking. I had an early miscarriage last fall. It went on for over 30 days. My HCG levels were very very slow to fall. The OB kept checking to make sure they didn't miss an ectopic. Is it possible that it resovled itself? And that is why I bled for soo soo long.
BTW.. this a result of me freaking out about what they may find tomorrow with the HSG. I am so scared that maybe I had an ectopic and that they are going to find scar tissue or a blockage.
Google and reading other people's stories can really freak a girl out.

Re: Can an ectopic pregnancy resolve itself?
Do you mean resolve itself without medical intevention?
I'm not really sure. My guess is no. Both of my ectopics were tubal. They were both implanted in my tubes...there was a sac and a heartbeat. They had to be removed/treated in order to keep my tube from rupturing (which did eventually happen with one). I was told there was no way of "saving" the pregnancy, and I assume that if they hadn't discovered them, I may have died as I was pretty close to it when I finally got into surgery after the rupture. I was treated with methotrexate and surgeries.
Tubal ectopics are dangerous and would require treatment. A pregnancy in the abdomen (outside the uterus) - I would assume it would need treatment but maybe it could resolve on its own? The only other place I've heard of an ectopic happening is in the portion of the tube that is actually in your uterus...but that's pretty rare and I think also dangerous so it would probably have been treated aggressively with either metho or surgery.
I really don't know in your situation - maybe it was an ectopic but not in the tubes? I couldn't even guess. But don't freak out too much - even if the HSG shows damage or blockage, there is still hope.
I have no tubes, did one cycle of IVF and here I am pregnant. Try (I know it's hard) not too freak out too much - stay calm and see what the HSG shows.

Re: Can an ectopic pregnancy resolve itself?
My guesss who be "yes". I had a questionable ectopic. They didn't find it in the tubes or anywhere else for that matter. The pathology report was negative. I was told that I might have passed it. HTH

This may be a dumb question but did your doc see anything on ultrasound when you had your m/c? The location of the pregnancy is easy to tell with an internal sono.

Re: Can an ectopic pregnancy resolve itself?
I had an ectopic last year and have done a lot of reading (probably too much) on the subject.
I think that some ectopics can resolve themselves in that they result in an early miscarriage.
Ectopics can be dangerous. I was bleeding internally and didn't know it. My docs estimate that I was within 48 hours of my life being in danger.
Good luck!
