Re: Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
Some summers we went to a camp that my mom worked at and others we did nothing because my mom was a stay at home mom. But as a working mom camp seems to be the best thing for my 6 year old to stay active during the summer.

Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
I grew up on LI and went to day camp from kindergarten until I was a CIT and then worked as a counselor. We were not allowed to go to sleep away camp however.

Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
No. My parents worked full time, but we went to my grandparents house every day, we would be dropped off around 8 and picked up by 5. My aunt & uncle also worked full time, and my cousin, only 4 months older than me, was also there all summer. It was awesome. We would go in the pool, play in the sprinklers, we would leave our bikes at their house for the summer so we would do that. My grandparents would take us places like the zoo. Once we got older (around 8-9), we would walk the 4 blocks to the park, walk to Carvel to get ice cream, you name it, we did it. We would help my grandma pick tomatoes from her garden and make her homemade sauce. Such amazing summer memories spent with my cousin & siblings. I wish my kids had that!!

Re: Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
Grew up in queens and Brooklyn and never went to camp but I never did half the sh!t my son does.. private school, extra curricular activities As a kid I stayed with my mom or sister or by myself when I was older.
I work full time so YMCA camp is so much cheaper than a sitter and more fun cause they go on trips. My son actually started camp when I was working part time because I felt like he was more entertained than me doing it all summer.

No my mom was home so I just stayed home. Although for a couple of years I went to a free summer program at a local elementary school, which provided lunch & then activities for a couple of hours afterward, like arts & crafts, sports, board games, etc. Not real camp though.

Re: Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
Grew up in Suffolk and never went to camp and neither did any of my friends. I would be outside from early in the morning, stop in for lunch and dinner and be outside until my mom called us in. We swam, rode bikes every where, built tree forts, jumped on the trampoline. I would call up friends at 10 am and say can you come and play. Never did we set up play dates it was just carefree and fun and I look back at those days and remember them with such happiness.

Camp spinoff: Did you go to camp growing up?
From the beginning of July til the end of August every year starting at the age of 7 I went to sleep away camp. Usually in upstate NY. My mom would come and visit me once over the whole summer. As a kid I hated it but as an adult I look back and have great memories. While I was at camp my mom would take vacation and go away. We never took a family vacation.
