Called Holtsville Ecology Center today...
I know people have been wondering about this, as have I, so I decided to give them a call today to get more information about fees, etc...
Found out "as of now" what the car rates will be, which are effective after Memorial Day weekend.
One day fees are:
Residents: $5
Non-residents: $20
Annual permit/ticket:
Residents: $10
Ready for this!?!?
Non-residents: $250!!!! 
I love going there, and have been taking my brothers kids there since they were little. Plus DH and I used to go there when we were dating... 
I had hoped to take our own kids there, but it looks like when we do, we will be going w/ my ILs who thankfully are residents...
What an insane jump though- to go from free to $250...  I'm glad they are able to keep the park open, but wish there was a better way than this!

I will be shocked if any non-residents actually buy an annual pass. They are really out of their minds with these rates. I don't live anywhere near there and used to still go several times a year. I'd still go occasionally if it were say $5 to get in but $20 is nuts.
I get charging but why so much? Also, is their pool even open? It didn't appear to be when we were there last year.

Lol- I am 24 weeks today w/ 
So I'm not sure how to answer that! 
I'm hoping they stay in for another 8-10 weeks, but was hoping to take my kids to Holtsville this summer...
I'm due August 5th but they're figuring c-section mid to late June to early July.

No idea. She asked me if I was a resident and I said yes since I was calling from my in-laws house, and they are. She didn't mention that sticker, so I would think they're different... You may want to call them to double check though.

So...what do you have to be a resident OF to be a "resident" for the Holtsville Center.

Yes but we can't even use some facilities like Venetian Shores anymore, and I didn't mind paying the $20 as a non-resident of Babylon. At least you CAN go here if you want. Brookhaven had to do something, they almost closed this facility all together. You'd have to pay for The Game Farm or Petting Zoo or most any other place I can think of. There really isn't much for free (that's worth going to) out there.

holy moly  that's insane for non-residents- I pay less than that for my bronx zoo membership which gets me sooo much more.
disapointing, I was looking forward to taking DS there over the summer

I am considered town of Islip here in Holbrook... So I'm not sure where the hamlet of Brookhaven comes into play... And yes, the rates are completely absurd and it's sad that my dd won't be able to enjoy the place for the first time this summer

I am also considered town of islip in holbrook, but some parts of holbrook are in the town of brookhaven

Called Holtsville Ecology Center today...
The Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank is still free if your kids want to see animals. There are a ton of free parks with nicer playgrounds, and Heritage park has a nice walking trail. The pool always had a charge and isn't kid friendly IMO anyway.
