Cake experts, I need your help please. UPDATE my cake!
I was planning on making this sailboat cake for DS: Here are the cut out directions:
So it seems simple enough but my problem is that I have to make it bigger somehow. I need it for at least 30 people and I don't think one 13x9 pan is going to cut it. I am afraid if I double it in height that it might slide or not be as precise. If I did it in length, how would I know what size to then make it? Would I just make sure it is rectangular? My other option is just to make a supplemental cake but I would love for this sailboat one to be enough.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Ok so here it is, I decided to make it twice as big. It was kind of a pita and it does not looks exactly like the picture but I think it came out pretty good for my first time.

I think it would be cute if you had multiple boats. Sorry I can't help beyond that!

Hmm, thats an idea. My other idea was to do the boat and a #1 cake..

What about cupcakes in addition to the cake? You could decorate them all nautical themed!

ETA: Or you could just do them blue since they look like a lot of work.

Maybe you can buy a sheet cake, already frosted from the bakery, then put the boat on top of it

Thanks! My sister is making cupcakes already and we made nautical flags to stick in them. Do you guys think that is enough?
My parents are telling me that everyone has to have a piece of the cake or it is rude, lol. We would have the sailboat cake, cupcakes and fruit salad for dessert. I would love to keep it at that because I have so much other stuff to do too!

This IS a good idea! It would keep it simple but I would definitely have enough cake then.

In the pic it almost looks like it is on a sheet cake-you can get a plain white or blue sheet cake and decorate the background of the cake with clouds, sun, etc... with the boat in the middle.

Thanks :)
For the icing I just discovered "crumb coating" You do a thin layer of icing and then put cake in freezer or fridge for a few minutes so it has hardened a bit and then you do another layer of icing! There were no crumbs!!! I will be doing this from now on.
