caffeine and breastfeeding
what is the rule of thumb for drinking coffee and breastfeeding?
after i nurse, i drink a cup right away. then i wouldnt nurse again for 2 1/2 hours.
but today and yesterday, i had 2 cups. (i actually pumped and dumped b/c i was unsure) and gave the girls pumped milk from other days.
Any advice!!!!!!  thanks in advance!!

caffeine and breastfeeding
2 cups a day should be fine. Caffeine is at its highest level in breastmilk about an hour after consumption. So drinking coffee right after nursing is totally fine!

I wouldn't have a triple shot of espresso while BFing, but 1-2 cups (16 oz max) of coffee should be fine. Drink plenty of water b/c coffee can be dehydrating.

never pump and dump that liquid gold! 
Caffeine - even alcohol - is fine in moderation when breastfeeding!

I drank a cup or two a day but if I did have a second it was over 5 hours later, I wouldn't drink 2 in a row. DD never seemed to be bothered by it but if she did I would have stopped.
I LOVE this website for all things BF . . .

Oh and just wanted to add...Breastfeeding is not like being pregnant..there is nothing you HAVE to stop eating or drinking when you breastfeed..everything is ok in moderation!
Some people refrain from foods based on noticible changes in their baby
But...
3 kids bf for a year each and had my regular diet throughout! Enjoy it all, Mary! :)
And just drink lots and lots and lots of water!

thanks katie - i should have just called you, but i didnt want to feed them anything if it would be too much for them.

THANKS LADIES!!!
i forgot all the rules and im a total worrier now - have preemie twins that just came home after 3 weeks in NICU - i want to be safe.
need my coffee though, using the K cups so i dont have too much in a serving
