First i would see if its avaiable in your here.
As a new customer, you will get a good intro rate. once the rate is done, it would go pretty much similar what Cablevision charges.

We went w/ verizon... simply because we wanted to be able to watch dvr from every box in the house. with optimum you could only do that on 1 tv. the prices were similar, when we told optimum we were going to go w/ verizon they tried throwing some extra stuff in there as well (although at that point it did not matter) so FYI you can bargain!

We had Cable forever. Since the whole debacle with Food Network and then ABC, we switched.
Fios is awesome! More channels, better features and much less every month and locked in for a 2 yr contract.

We had cablvision for about 4 years then we switched to verizon. I like it. I have no complaints.

We had DirecTV for 2 years, then switched to Cablevision for 5 years and recently made the switch to Verizon FiOS.
I think I like FiOS the best in terms of qualities and features.
I do miss the simple one page bill from Cablevision and I liked their DVR better than the FiOS one.
