C section in NewYork

Hi! I'm new to this forum.
I'm 10 weeks pregnant. Due to some very traumatic experiences in the past, I have something called tokophobia. My psychiatrist in London(I'm new in USA) told me the best thing for my mental health conditions would be a c section.

I am curious to know if there are doctors who perform maternal choice c sections in New York? Or even Chicago or Dc?
(I have family there so I could move for the last few months)
I mean, I'm sure there are, but how easy are they to find?
Which are the cs friendly hospitals?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd like to point out that I don't want to start a cs v/s vb debate. I'm very well aware of the risks and I'm going into this with my eyes open.

ABSOLUTELY! Primary Elective C/S are done all the time. I used to work at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC and I saw quite a few. Good Luck!!

I think plenty of docs here in NY will be okay with your choice of having a c/s; particularly if you explain why you feel it's best.

You likely don't even have to look for "c/s friendly" hospitals -- here in the US c-sections are performed much more than in Europe. Every hospital is c-section capable, willing, and ready.

Thanks so much guys!
I really appreciate it. I posted on this other forum and all the women pounced on me like I was so selfish to ask for one.
Thanks for being supportive and not judgemental.Chat Icon

That stinks that people were like that with you. How you give birth is an extremely personal choice and you have to do what is best for YOU.

Good luck!

I had to google tokophobia... I can't imagine anyone would turn you away for an elective c-section with your condition. Wishing you all the best!!! Chat Icon

I think if you have a note from a psych stating that you have this condition, that a dr. would have no problem scheduling one for you.

People get c/s all the time and they dont really need them. Sounds like you have a valid reason Chat Icon

will you be living in NYC? If so, Lenox Hill and Weill Cornell Hospital are fantastic choices, I recommend Dr. Melissa Waterstone at Weill Cornell medical associates:

She's my doctor and the service I've received is top notch.

Re: C section in NewYork

Just wanted to add that C-sections are extremely common here in the US. At the hospital where I'm delivering, they gave me a pamphlet with all sorts of statistics and it stated that the c-section rate there was 42%. So almost half the babies born at that hospital are via c-section!

Women have elective c-sections all the time; for example, if a woman's first baby was a c-section, many doctors will just schedule the 2nd child to be born that way without even discussing a vaginal birth. I'm sure you won't have a problem. Good luck and a happy and healthy 9 months to you!

Re: C section in NewYork

Thanks for reassuring me.
I read on various other forums that "no ethical doctor would do them" and that "it is unreasonable to ask for one".
But after reading the replies on here, I realise that its going to be easier than I thought! So thanks a lot:)
