Buying a home and "Ghosts"

This is a weird question but...

I usually don't believe in ghosts but (and maybe this is because we are closing in a week) I all of a sudden find myself worried about "what if this house is haunted, etc".

I thought about it when house hunting too - the house needed to have good "vibes".

So am I the only weirdo or does anyone else think about this?

Just a random question on this day after halloweenChat Icon

Re: Buying a home and "Ghosts"

I truly believe that I had a ghost in my NY house. The former owner was into american indian headdresses and spirits and oftentimes at night, DH and I (even my mom experienced it) would think that we saw someone walk in or out of the room or we would hear something only to find nothing. But the thing is that I believe that it was a good ghost (spirit) because we were never afraid of it..

Re: Buying a home and "Ghosts"

it does worry me a little bit. but i think if you get a good vibe from the house, you probably will not be bothered by "mean" spirits. my ILs had a ghost. both my MIL and FIL saw it on separate occassions and then years later realized it was the same ghost, based on their descriptions. they were never scared of her though. they have not seen her since they redid the kitchen.

I did when I first moved in. It's just being in a new house that freaks me out. I got used to living here and now I feel more at ease. If you're really feeling weird, have a priest come in and bless the house.

My IL's alwyas told me when you go into a home take a white candle and light it. if the flame stays straight burning then it's okay, but if it sways side to side then there are spirits in the house. Obviously don't do this near a draft. BUt i believe in all this stuff. I have seen things. Not in my own house but in a friends house. I was there by myself once and a came out of the shower i though my friend was home cuz i heard the radio on, well, my friend was not home. I ran outt a there so friggen fast.

Re: Buying a home and "Ghosts"

My friend had her house built on land that had a house that was burnt down. Well, her house is now haunted.

She always hears a child running up and down her stairs..but her kids are sleeping or not in the house. She will smell wafts of smoke or something burning, but then it will dissappear, and her fridge will release ice cubes onto the floor when she talks about it being haunted.

I stayed there house sitting for 1 week, forgetting about all of this. My sister stayed with me one night and we couldn't figure out what noises we were hearing.

3 days before they came home, I went to their house after work, and walked into the house. All the lights were on in the living room and kitchen. I thought maybe her sister had stopped by. I went into the bedroom to let the dog out of this little cage they kept him in during the day, and I heard this loud noise coming from the baby monitor on the ledge in the room...like fuzzy noise. The baby monitor was on, FULL blast. I turned it off, and actually had to click it to the off position. That freaked me out and I wouldn't sleep there. When they came home from vacation, I told my friend, and she told her husband, who immediately responded, I unplugged the baby monitor when we left, inclucing all the other appliances. Freaked me out!

My house was built in 1920 and we are only the 3rd owners. The woman who owned it before the people we bought it from lived in this house since she was born. Our neighbors knew her and have given me pictures of her and have told me that she was the nicest woman who loved children, but could never have any.

Anyways, I know she is here. I here weird noises sometimes. My son's door once opened all by itself which I witnessed. I also heard a loud bang coming from my living room, I ran in, and it was nothing- I was home alone. I just get a sense that she is here. I am not afraid, which is the weird part since I am afraid of everything. Chat Icon

Re: Buying a home and "Ghosts"

i know my grandmother & my grandpa on my Mom's side & my great uncle are in my house all the time. My grandmother even turns on lights & stuff to let me know she's here.

When we were buying our house I had a short term bad feeling about the house having a bad vibe. It didn't last long & I was wrong. Now that my family ghosts are here I feel totally comfortable.

You know, I thought about this also when we closed and kept telling myself I was getting carried away. So far we're here a couple months, and no signs of ghosts. The house never has seemed creepy at all to me.

I do believe in them though. A couple people in my family saw my great grandmother in my grandmother's house (it was her house originally). No one was freaked out by it, it did seem unusual, but she was a nice person and she loved everyone in the house, so she didn't seem like a threatening ghost at all.

My uncle and aunt had a house years ago that was haunted. I was very young when they lived there and didn't see anything myself, I've just heard stories, but their ghost seems to have been not so nice. Rooms would turn ice cold suddenly, and then heat up again. Our dog would not go up the staircase in the house even when my mother went up there, and he followed her everywhere. My cousins thought they saw a man in the house and got scared, and my uncle had dreams about someone throwing a child down the staircase. He never had them before or since. They moved out after a couple years.

Me too - this is my biggest fear right now - the priest thing might not be a bad idea.

Re: Buying a home and "Ghosts"

You are not a weirdo. I am the same way. The house we bought last year is haunted but I believe it is OUR ghosts following us and we don't mind having them around. But if you sense them you just have to firmly tell them to leave. (Now who sounds like a weirdo Chat Icon )
