Burn from icing?
I know you arent supposed to apply ice directly to skin but I do it sometimes on my shins bc when I use a towel I cannot feel the cold of the ice. Anyway I ended up with like freezer burn or frost bite or something, a few patches of skin got discolored and after a few days scabby. 3 months later I still have faint scars.
Well you think I'd learn from the lesson...I just did this again, ice directly on shin and calf and owwwwwwwwwww, it is burning so bad. I just put aloe burn cream on it.

This has happened to me before. Maybe put a paper towel inbetween...it should be thin enough for you to feel the ice. Also, if you want the direct pressure, try freezing ice in a plastic cup, peel the cup back and rub the ice up and down on your shins.
Feel better

I have heard of ice baths yikes! so you should be OK with direct skin contact - but I think ice baths are mixed with water - not sure of the physics behind that.
for my shins, I take a frozen bag of peas.
hope it feels better

i put ice in a zip lock bag and then wrap a paper towel around it. You still really feel the ice.

I just use frozen vegetables instead. It really works! Next time your shins throb, grab a bag of frozen peas, corn, succotash, etc. from your freezer - it's as cold as ice, but neatly wrapped in a plastic bag for you already, and it won't melt or drip anywhere!

Re: Burn from icing?
If you use ice directly on your skin you must keep moving it, like in a circular motion.
