Are you planning on using a bumper? I like the look of them but most of the safety/consumer information out there says it's safer to skip them because of suffocation risks. Just curious what other people are doing.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

I'm not using the bumper, because even if the risk is at 1 in 123,586,696,486- there's no positive benefit from using it, so I feel better just skipping it. God forbid we are that one random incident- I could never live with myself choosing asthetics and decor over safety.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

I use them, and have never had any kind of problem. My DS slept in his cousins crib the other night while we were over there, and they don't use bumpers, and both of his legs got stuck in the slats of wood, and was screaming his head off until we came and unstuck him.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

I think I will use them, but if I see it as safety issue, I have no problem removing them.

I did make sure to get the bumpers with ties on both the top and bottom and I got a crib with slots all around so I can tie it all the way around.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

I didn't use them with DS and I won't use them with this child. I'd rather have him get his leg stuck and cry (although it never happened) than have him suffocate! It's just not worth it. You only need 1 time for something to go wrong. It's just not worth it.

If you're not using a bumper, did you still buy a crib bedding set? Or did you buy the bedding separately? Just curious...

I'm leaning toward not using a bumper...are there any other uses for it?

Thanks!

I'm thinking of taking mine apart and making curtains. Or something else with the fabric.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

I'm still going to use mine... I have about 5 cousins under the age of 4 and all of their parents used them and never had any issues so I still feel as though they are ok to use. If I do an issue down the road then i'll remove it.

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

We use the bumper that came with the set. DD is an active girl, always banging around her crib (she's almost 8 months). She'd have a bruised noggin and limbs by now if not for them. We have the Angelcare monitor, so that reassures me.

When she starts messing with the bumper and realizing she can move it, I will take it out and replace with the mesh ones I already have.

We have a bumper and plan on using it. If Chat Icon is super active and starts getting too close, I will have no problem taking them down.

We got one and went to Safety class last week. They said to remove them - babies suffocate because of them They said you could put it at 1 yrs old.

We removed them last night!

Re: Bumpers...yay or nay?

from what i have read it's safe to use bumpers until the baby can move on his/her own - when they start rolling is when you should take them out since there is the risk of suffocation.

i haven't decided if i am using them yet, but the bedding set i am registering for comes with them, so i'll have the option either way.
