And some it is how poorly this vote was advertised. At least around here, I saw one sign. Didn't even get anything in the mail.

Ours passed. What angers me is that kids not from my SD are in our schools and I am paying for things for them. That's not right! Chat Icon

That is not always true. Districts have to pay other districts for children in the school but not residents.

What about the children attending school of people who are not legal citizens? If they aren't legal, they don't pay taxes, so they aren't paying for their children to attend school?

Is that accurate??

I think they are still paying taxes because if they rent the owner of that house/apartment is paying property taxes. No?? I mean if a legal citizen rent they are still entitle to go to the school because through the property taxes they are paying school taxes..

IF it's a legal apartment then the property taxes are probably higher - taxed as a two family property, but if it's an illegal apartment like many on the island are, then no, the property owner is paying taxes based on one family living on that property, when two are actually there, and that's one way that there can be more children in the district than accounted for. In the past I've also heard of people that moved to another SD but kept their kids enrolled in a preferred district by registering their address as living with a relative so you could be paying for the children of someone not living in the district that way too.
