BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?UPDATE

My doctor said that NSUH will not allow them to induce until I am offically a week late. This is unless of course there is a medical reason to induce sooner. I was just wondering if this the norm.

How long did your doctor wait to induce you after your DD? Did you end up going into labor on your own before induction?

People have said inductions often result in a c section..was this the case for you?

My dr wanted to induce me on my DD, but we waited and after no progress I was induced 11 days after my DD. I did not want to be induced, but, at the point I was at, my Dr said I didn't have a choice. You can't be pregnant for too long or you can run into complications.

Sounds right to me. I was induced on my due date due to low/no fluid. I would avoid induction if you can (obv. we usually have no choice). It was not pleasant.

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

I was induced exactly one week after my due date. Dr. did not want to wait longer than that. Good thing because my DD was a big baby.

I delivered DS at Good Sam and my practice induced at 39 weeks for whatever reason, meaning that if you just wanted to have your baby early that they would induce you starting at 39 weeks. I don't agree with that, or a lot of things they do, I switched to a midwife this time around.

I was induced 4 days after my due date. My practice won't let you go longer than a week and since a week after my due date was Christmas eve, they induced me earlier.

I was dilated so I was just induced using pitocin and I had a good experience. Everything started sometime between 7 and 8am and I delivered DS vaginally at 9:10pm after a short time of pushing.

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

my doctor's rule was he wouldn't induce before 10 days without cause.

on my due date I had protein in my urine and elevated blood pressure so he sent me to L&D where they told me i had pre-eclampsia. so they started me on cervadil that night. 2 days later i had a c-section.

Crashing but my Dr would not induce until I was a week past DD. However due to low fluid I was induced on my DD - I went into the hospital at 10pm at 1.5cm (not sure about effaced) and started the induction.
24hrs later I pushed for 15 min and my DS was born!!
My friend was also induced (1 week after DD) and she had a natural birth as well - no c-section

My induction was 8 days after due date, baby was delivered on the 9th day. My doctor typically doesn't speak about inductions until after 41 weeks.

ETA: When I arrived at the hospital I was having very small contractions (I wasn't really feeling them) and was dilated a cm. Up until that point, I had no dilation, so I might've been going into labor on my own. I had cervadil and the whole experience was really quick. It put me into full blown labor within hours, my water broke on it's own (and the cervadil came out) and DD was delivered with about 20 minutes of pushing.

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

My Dr wouldn't induce me until I was 2 weeks late unless there was a medical condition that required me to get induced earlier which there wasn't. I was scheduled to go into the hospital on 6/17 at 8pm to start the induction process with Cervadil. I was basically 1 cm when I got to the hospital and about 80% effaced. I was supposed to get Pitocin at 7am the next morning but at about 1am the contractions were getting more severe. At about 4am my water broke and I started pushing at 5:45 am. I pushed for 1 hour and had DS at 6:43am.

Good Luck! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

With my first DS I started the induction 5 days past my due date because of low fluid levels. I had a great experience with the induction. I probably would have waited it out a little longer if I could have.
With my second DS I went in for an induction a few days before my due date, just for convenience of planning around work and having child care for older DS. My body wasn't really ready so I chose to just go home. We scheduled another induction fir the next week, which would have put me 5 days past my due date. I went into labor on my own the day before the induction.

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

I was induced at 39 w 4/5 days, but that was b/c I had Gestational Diabetes.

I gave birth at St. Charles, though.

I had a full vaginal delivery, no c-section, but I was in labor for over 12 hours, with full-on back labor throughout and pushing for at least three hours. Thank god for pain meds!

I was scheduled exactly 1 week after, and ended up going into labor on my own the night before and had her earlier in the day that my induction was scheduled. I was 1.5 cm dilated at 40wk 2 day and 3-4 cm when I got to the hospital.

I was induced at NSUH at 40w 5d. For a week i was 3cm dilated, so they started me out on pitocin. 12 hours later i delivered my DS, no C-section.

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

I was induced at 39 weeks 4 days because I was 3 cm for 4 weeks, my water was bulging, her head was low, and I was having minor contractions a minute apart for a few weeks... I was worried about the Pitocin b/c of strong contractions and I didn't want to be induced at all b/c of the higher risk of c section, but I had a successful induction 4 hours after starting Pitocin.

I delievered at NSUH and was also told they wouldn't induce until I was a week late as well.

Actually, my OB told him he should TECHINALLY let me go 2 weeks pass my DD. I just gave him ahh: look and he told me he wouldn't do that to me.

DS DD was 09/5
I was scheduled to be induced on 09/17
He was born on 09/10

I was 2 cms I believe. At my last appt before the induction, the dr felt I wouldn't make it to the induction (which thankfully I did because two nights before DH had to work and there was a huge snow storm so I was a paranoid mess!)

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?

I had a great experience with my induction.

Was due on the 23rd and induced on the 26th - my BP had been gradually rising, and they were concerned that the baby would be huge. As of the 25th, I wasn't dilated or effaced at all - but the cervadil did it's job. I required a small dose of pitocin right before I started to push just to bring DS down some more.

All in all - a great experience. Cervadil was administered around 2:30 a.m.; epidural around 10:30 a.m.; started pushing at 5:08 p.m. and DS was born at 6:24 p.m.

That's funny b/c I am also delivering at NSUH and my OB and I just had this discussion b/c he is going on vacation during the week of my edd.

He said that he could not induce the day before he leaves for vacation me b/c I will only by 38.5 and he has to wait until 39 weeks to induce. (As a side note I listened to him talk but really didn't care b/c I'd rather have someone else deliver me than be induced at all).

Re: BTDT:How many days after your DD was your induction scheduled?UPDATE

I was induced with my 1st, on my due date actually due to low fluid. That was at Stonybrook Hospital though. My 2nd came 9 days early but the night before I was scheduled to be induced anyway. That was Feb 2010 @ NSUH. My doc is the supreme at NSUH and according to him we can induce at 39w IF it's not your first baby and you have an "inducable cervix".

Personally, I prefer being induced to actually having to endure real labor for however many hours until the hospital sees fit to give you an epi.

With #1 I never had to really feel hard labor or the internals etc. I had my pitocin drip and 2 hours later I had my epi...18 hrs after that DS was born and I didn't feel a thing.

DS#2 was different. I had NO IDEA what to expect and had cramping/bleeding for 8 hours at home, went to L & D, got an exam and had them tell me that I was still only 1cm dilated and send me home. It was 2:30am and I was in pain, they told me to take "4 Tylenol and an Ambien to sleep" or have a "glass of wine to relax". and go to my doc at 9am. I left and the contractions/pain went from a a 6 ish to an 8.5, drove 25 min home & took the HOTTEST shower I could stand for 1 hour till the water ran cold. (I had back labor also) it's now 3:30am and I call my doc and tell him I am in a LOT of pain and he says "they said you were not in labor" BUT if it hurts that bad go back....

25 min later I walk back into L & D, unable to take the pain or walk through the contractions...Low and behold I AM in LABOR (idiots) and 4.5cm 100 % effaced.... it's 4:30 am and at shortly after 9am DS#2 was born. pain free thanks to the epi.

So...IMO induction is not exactly the worst thing...I much prefer that to c-section which carries many risks in itself and is MAJOR surgery. Sometimes the benefits of inducing are to much to ignore. Then again, I know a few people that feared vaginal delivery so much they requested a section right off the bat...more than once. In the end it all comes down to personal preference and To each his own!

I don't think induction has anything to do with increased rates of c sections. From my experience, of the 3 people I know (myself included) that have had inductions (the other 2 ladies both had their 2 children each induced one of them over 9lb) and none of us ended up with sections. I think that it has more to do with epidural which has the ability to slow labor progression sometimes and that can result in a drop in the baby HB; which results in the need for csection.

i was induced on my due date. i delivered OOS though, not sure how that plays into your situation. we were team Chat Icon and were anxious to meet our LO, we didn't mind! more than anything though, our Dr. assured us that anytime on/after the due date was okay to induce since i've always measured on point...good thing, DD was 8 pounds 8 oz!
