BTDT Moms with Cats
I have a very sweet and lovable adult male cat. He loves people but he doesn't really love little kids (he's not around them much at all but he's scared of them). Any ideas for things I can do to prepare him for the arrival of a baby? I'm concerned because he still has his nails and he has scratched me a few times in defense. I can't bear to give him up, partly because he's FIV+ so he can't live with other cats. But I also don't want him to ever hurt my child. Any advice?

make sure you clip his nails often. 
In all seriousness, there is nothing you can do. Just don't leave the cat alone with the baby.
I have 2 cats. 1 is so friendly and 1 is hit or miss. My son is now 3. They have pretty much left him alone since day 1 and run from him whenever they see him. The 1 friendly cat will let my son pet him now and the other cat just runs away from him.
You're just going to have to see how it goes.
