BTDT Moms with Cats

Did you find that your cat/s were curious about the Bassinet and Crib to the point that they would jump in? If so, how did you manage to stop that from happening?

We set up the Bassinet in our room this past weekend and within a few hours my curious little kitty decided he was going to find out what this new thing was and jump in! I grabbed him, told him no, and tapped him (lightly) on the head.

I am just concerned he is going to do this while the baby and I are sleeping.

Any advice? Tricks?

if we get pregnant my plan is to lock out the cats from the bedroom when the baby is in it. But I would start using the spray bottle anytime cats venture near it.

AJ's room was off limits. Even before she was born. Yes they still snuck in time to time but we'd spray them (or point the bottle was enough) with water.

Now she's older. I know when she was about 1 I have photos of my cat who jumped into her crib and burrowed herself under the covers. Very cute! haha Still its a no-no so I took a photo then shushed her out.

At 2yrs now her room is still off limits, the door is kept close unless she's awake and playing. Thankfully they don't want her to pet them so they run if she comes near them. So she herself polices the cat activity in her room

The room that DS is sleeping in is always closed. When DS was sleeping in his cradle in our bedroom I did not let the cat go in at all. Now that we transitiond DS into hsi room, the cat is not allowed to go into hsi bedroom. That being said, now that DS is here, the cat wants nothing to do wtih him.

We have two very nosy, very stubborn cats that basically laugh at spray bottles. We even bought a mat with spikes on it to put in the crib/bassinet before the baby came to scare them from jumping in--nothing worked. We ended up putting a tall gate on the baby's room door (where she sleeps--that was our biggest concern since she'd be in there when we arent right there). She is 7 1/2 weeks now and although I just looked down and my cat is currently batting around the baby's pacifer..ughhh... they seem to not be quite as curious. I would suggest setting everything up and let them get over their curiosity before the baby comes. At first they were so interested in the swing, bouncy seat, etc but now they really can't be bothered.

Princess is not allowed in DS's room. but just in case we make sure there is nothing for her to jump on to get in the crib. she did it once when we were unloaded the diaper box and we yelled at her. she never did it again.

My cats were curious about all the baby stuff before DD#1 got here. Once she was here they didn't go anywhere near it..

I know some people have suggested using tin foil so that when they jump in the noise scares them.

We also used to keep the doors to our bedrooms closed most times because we had a kitten who like to pee on my DDs stuff.

My cat never once jumped in the crib.

I always found her sleeping on the changing table, but never in the crib!

We kept a water bottle near the crib. Whenever we saw the cat jump in or going near it - we'd spray him.

By the time DS was born the cat basically ran if he just saw the water bottle get into our hands.

However, I didn't think about the changing pad. I have yet to catch him on it but the evidence is DEF there. I think he sleeps on it when we aren't home.

I go to lay DS down and I have to stop and throw a towel down because I see random hair I keep a water bottle on the changing table, but since he doesn't do it when we're around I can't spray him. Smart cat...

A water bottle will not work with this cat and he doesn't need a stepping stone to jump in the crib or bassinet...he can jump from the floor. He's very very curious....almost dog like...lol.

We have been keeping the door to the baby's room closed and the only time he has ever jumped on the crib was when I was in the room doing something. But the bassinett is in our bedroom and I don't keep that door closed. I am hoping his curiosity will cease once I bring her home.

My cat did that and we let her. I didn't want the bassinet to become something she couldn't be curious about, thus increasing her curiosity and maybe creating some jealousy. Once we brought my daughter home from the hospital our cat never jumped in the bassinet again. Instead she would sit below it or watch the baby from the bed.

My cat is very odd, scared of nothing (takes full blown showers, everyday plays with the tin foil i laid in the crib etc..) i was really concerned about this bc the cat would sleep in the crib ( before ds arrived) but once he was here he wanted no part of him or it. We keep the door closed at night so The cat doesnt try to sleep with ds but it is open all day and he doesnt go in his room.

It wasnt until a few months ago (ds is now 8 months) that the cat comes near him. They are best buds and ds tackles the cat - so cute!

I put a couple of pieces of tin foil in the bassinet and my cat jumped in once and then never went near it again.

DD's room is off limits to the cat.

Our cats are not allowed in the bedrooms, the doors are always closed.
