BTDT moms who BF...newborn spitting up blood???

Hi ladies, I'm new to the parenting board. My little girl is 4 days old and I'm freaking out a little bit. I'm BF her and last night noticed a little link tinge to her spitup... this morning when I woke up she had spit up again, this time it was more red! My nipples are cracking so I'm hoping this is where it is coming from and its not something wrong with her. We have her first pediatrician appointment today, thank goodness. Anyone ever experience this?

I had that when I was BF. I think it's probably your blood since you said your nipples were cracking.

I'd still bring it up at your appt today though

If you could save some, the doc might want to see it - might not - or maybe just take a pic of it on your cell so you can show the doc.

Most likely from you since your nipples are cracked, very common. Chat Icon If she wasn't spitting up you wouldn't even know she was ingesting it. You can bring it up to your ped but I wouldn't worry.

I had this with ds. he started spitting up blood and I freaked out. It turned out it was from my nipples and the only time they would bleed was from the suction of the baby or pump. You should have your ped or an lc check the latch od the baby. Your nipples should not be bleeding if the latch is good. the only other reason i was told was because of thrush. If you had a vag birth the baby can pick up yeast in the birth canal. Look in the babies mouth and see iif there is any white filmy stuff that doesn't wipe away. I also loved Earth Mama Nipple Butter. It was a godsend. It fixed my nipples right up. I used it after my shower and after every nursing session. It doesn't have to be wiped off and is not greasy like lanolin. it will get better Chat Icon Chat Icon
