BTDT Moms of circumsiced boys
Hi,
I am about 4 weeks away from DS being here and was wondering after we have him circumsiced in the hospital do I need to put anything on his penis during healing? I am trying to buy the last few odds and ends I need for him in the house. Or if you have a tip or something about the whole process. Not looking for drama tho!
Thanks!

They doctor told me to put a generous amount of vaseline on a gauze and cover it after each diaper change. It looks very painful in the beginning because it's very red but my sons healed very quick!

Re: BTDT Moms of circumsiced boys
As I recall, you just put a dab of Vaseline on the tip and cover with a square of gauze. It looks so gross at first, but within a couple of days it goes back to normal, so fear not!

Re: BTDT Moms of circumsiced boys
DS was born one week ago. The Dr. who performed the circumcision (we had a pediatric urologist do it) told us to use bacitracin, as did his pediatrician.

First few days, gauze pad with Vaseline…Once it started healing and pediatrician gave us the okay, we stopped w/ the gauze pads, and now just always apply vaseline after every change.

This. LO is just a week old. I had forgotten how raw it looks at first! But...it healed within 3 days.

Also, just because no one has mentioned this, ask your pediatrician if they recommend regularly pulling down the foreskin to make sure the skin doesn't re-adhere. No one told me to, so I just left it alone. I figured once the area healed, that was it. Unfortunately, my son then had to deal with adhesions (which requires yanking the foreskin back down to forcefully separate the fused tissue; it's awful). I don't think every child is prone to adhesions, though.

We used Vaseline and gauze. I didn't have to buy anything - I had enough samples from the hospital both times.

Re: BTDT Moms of circumsiced boys
vaseline... also we had to make sure to gently push it back at diaper changes to make sure that it doesn't re-stick. One time we brought back DS to the ped and it re-stuck and the doctor had to yank it back and DS was in pain :(

Gauze and vaseline each diaper change.
and once it starts healing, make sure you pull it back at each diaper change.

this exactly! we came home with a ton of vaseline samples from the hospital so there was never a need to buy it.

Re: BTDT Moms of circumsiced boys
Another tip...hahahaha...ask and see who is doing the circ. With my first, the ob did it. With my second, the day that he was suppose to get it done, only the resident doctors were doing them that day so they can practice. Um yah, just what I want, practicing how to circ on my son lol. My nurse told me DO NOT let them do it and she told me to go get it done at a ped urologist which I did.
