BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
I am due with twins in July. We only want to do one "big" party either the Christening in October or a first birthday party next July. Which is better?

I'm not sure which is better but it may depend on where you want to do it- is the bday party going to be at a hall/restaurant? Also something to consider (if it's important to you) is that I personally tried to hold off on the christening as long as possible because they were born during flu season.
I did 2 parties but in your situation I would choose a big 1st bday but that's just me. Plus it gives you more time to save/plan, adjust to having 2 little ones etc.

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
I also have twins I did a small christening I really kept it close friends and family just dinner at a restaurant maybe 25 people, I am lucky I guess to have a small family We did a big 1st bday. I felt like they would enjoy a party by their 1st bday, no they will never remember it but they were walking around playing and having fun as opposed to the christening where they just laid there

We did a small christening. Only immediate family and best friends. Then we did big 1st birthday at a restaurant with extended family and all friends

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We had a christening party (30 people-- family & friends) at a restaurant. Not too big or too small, it felt just right. Not planning to have a 1st birthday party, maybe just dinner & birthday cake at home with his grandparents & uncles (we have a small family). We had the christening when ds was 9 months old so I don't want to throw another party so soon again.

I did a small christening and will likely do the same for the first birthday. I do plan to do something special with DD and DH on her birthday just the three of us- I will have a family party the weekend before her actual birthday.

i did both relatively small and inexpensive... just family and friends... but had more people at the christenings for both kids. to me, the christening is more important and so if i was going big or "all out" it would be for that.

We had a small christening. Just immediate family. We went to dinner at a nice restaurant. For DD first birthday we went bigger. Had about 50 people in the back room of a restaurant.

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We did a small christening this time with immediate family in a restaurant afterwards. We are planning a big first birthday party. We did it this way because her birthday is in July and we can have it outside at our house and her christening was in the winter and we would have had to rent a hall and we didn't want to do that. For my other girls, I did it the opposite way because their birthdays weren't in the summer and their christenings were.

For both boys we did smaller christenings in a restaurant- just immediate family- grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and our very closest friends. 1st birthdays we did bigger and invited extended family & a larger number of friends.

I would personally do a bigger 1st birthday - you won't have time to plan a big party with newborn twins.

I did small for both - but if I wanted one big party I would do it for the birthday. Even though the christenings were small they are still stressful with a newborn.

BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We did a big christening in a place and a smaller 1st birthday party at home. DD was 5 months old when she was christened so she was at a great age. I didn't find it stressful at all but I love party planning.

BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We did a big Christening too. Our immediate family is small but, our extended family is huge and traditionally, they are invited to christenings.
We just had a few people over for their first birthday parties (and 2,3, and 4...)

Thanks. We are leaning toward the small christening and a big backyard bbq for their 1st birthday. I just don't want to seem gift grabby, especially since we have twins.

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We did a bigger Christening (catering hall, more people, DJ, etc) but the 1st bday was a lot more work for me since it was at my parent's house and I did the bulk of the cooking. But having a newborn I needed it all taken care of for the Christening.

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
Reading these threads, I think my idea of big and small are different from most.
We did a party in a restaurant for the Christening. In my family, it's more important than a first birthday party. DS's first birthday party was at home, with about 15 people, sandwich platter and cake.
The best way to do it is to figure out which party is more important to YOU. Some people like a big first birthday party, since the kids are a little older and it's more of a "fun" party. I like going to a Christening though, because sometimes it's the only opportunity to see the baby while he/she is still little.

We did the big Christening for our son and a smaller party for his 1st bday. I think we are going to scale back the Christening to just family for our 2nd.

Re: BTDT Moms: Big Christening or Big 1st Birthday?
We did a big first birthday and a smaller christening
And we have zero regrets on the big 1st birthday or the cost
They had a great time. All our friends and fam had a great time and got to spend time with my twins
And they made plenty of money for he savings account
