Re: BTDT Moms - Breastfeeding classes
i took one (it was included with another class i took at the hospital) and i didnt find it useful
if you are on the fence about breast feeding i would go bc they go over all the benefits
I delivered at LIJ New Hyde Park and they have lactation consultants on staff...when DD was born they came in and helped me. IMO the one on one time with a LC and dd was must more helfpul then a classroom and a doll

ITA. It's one thing to hold a doll in front of you and another thing to actually get your baby to properly latch on. I'd skip the class and just take advantage of the lactation consultants at the hospitals. The nurses were also really helpful as well.

BTDT Moms - Breastfeeding classes
I do think it's really helpful to educate yourself about it before giving birth. It's so stressful at first so to have a good understanding of what to expect can help you get through those early days. I went to the free class at SB and it was helpful but not great. I read the firs few chapters of Breastfeeding Made Simple which was excellent and really prepared me well. I also got a recommendation for a great LC that took my insurance beforehand which came in handy! I saw the LC in the hospital once and she just told me I was doing everything right which didn't really help ease my concerns that DD wasn't eating much.

Re: BTDT Moms - Breastfeeding classes
I didn't take a class.
I watched this video a few times.
I delivered at LIJ NHP and they had a LC consultant there to help me.
I was lucky. I didn't have any problems (other than the normal few week nipple pain) with TT nursing. This time around I'm expecting the worse since I had so good with her. I'm going to make sure to have a local LC on file JIC.

I'd skip the class and just have a LC come see you after you deliver. I never attended a BF class while pregnant. I saw LIJ LC; and atteneded the BF support group at Winthrop. I am still BF 10 months later.

Re: BTDT Moms - Breastfeeding classes
I found it very helpful and so did my husband. They encouraged DH's to go!
My teacher was also a LC and a breastfeeding mom so she provided us with real world examples of what can happen and how long it can take for your milk to come in, etc. She put my mind at ease about a few things!

Re: BTDT Moms - Breastfeeding classes
I didn't take one. I read a lot about BFing, and spoke to the LC at the hospital after having my DD. Honestly, after reading about different positions and how to get the baby to latch and working with my dd, we figured it out ourselves pretty quickly. I dont think it's necessary, but can't hurt.
