BTDT Mom re; fevers
my dd is 17 months old and she has a fever since yesterday for the first time since she was born. i took her to th dr. and they ruled out ear infection, throat, etc. they took blood and said it's a virus.
poor thing has been out of it since yesterday..how long is this going to last? i've been giving her tylenol and lukewarm baths. she's been eating chicken soup for the past two days.
my question is; is it normal for her to be sleeping most of the day and night? i want my dd back any advice from any other moms? tia!!!

Re: BTDT Mom re; fevers
When DD has had fevers, she typically sleeps a lot more than usual. If it persists for more than five days, I would take her back in to rule out an ear infection. Sometimes they miss them the first time around since those little canals are tricky. I hope she feels better soon!!

It sounds normal for a viral infection. Just think about when you're sick and have a fever, all you want to do is sleep, sleep, sleep. As long as she's drinking and the tylenol is keeping her fever down, I wouldn't worry. The more she sleeps now, the better for her little body. Hope she feels better!

I totally agree. Hope DD feels better If it's the roseola virus, she'll get a rash all over when the fever breaks. Just keep an eye out for that, even though there's nothing you can really do.
Lots of TLC

Re: BTDT Mom re; fevers
Fevers are actually good because it's your body's natural way of fighting off an infection somewhere. While they can be an indicator of something else wrong, ear infection, UTI, strep throat, etc, it could also just be a viral infection. Kiera had that a couple of weeks ago where she ran 103 for over a day and when we took her to the doctor they said nothing is wrong with her. They told us kids can handle fevers up to 105, past 105 or a steady fever of 104 for days is where they get concerned and may want us to bring her to the hospital. But their bodies can handle a lot. Hope your DD is feeling better soon!!

Re: BTDT Mom re; fevers
thanks so much ladies. i feel a little better. she woke up and she has a fever of 101 i gave her motrin (it seemed to work well for her last night) she drank a little bit of juice and dh is giving putting some cool washcloths on her forehead.
another question: is it okay that i gave her motrin instead of tylenol? the tylenol seems to wear out so fast.

Re: BTDT Mom re; fevers
Yes, infact, if her fever goes really high, you can alternate a dose of motrin and a dose of tylenol every two hours to break the fever.
