BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
So the gliders are all so expensive, MY GODDDD
Now do you feel this was like a "must have" or would any old rocking chair do? My mom has a wooden rocking chair that I could have.
Please share your experience as I feel way guilty buying MYSELF a $700 chair

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
Totally NOT a must--in my world anyway. I bought a pretty expensive one and really never used it for either of my DDs--and I BF too. I'm sort of using it now with my 4 month DS only because I moved it from my bedroom to my living room.
I always feed him in a regular chair...BF or FF.
Pretty much a waste for me.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
As someone who did NOT have one with my first, that is the single most important thing I will be getting for my 2nd. Top of my list.
I regret not having one.

DD isn't born yet but we bought ours a few months ago and it's been such a great purchase already. I love coming home from work and relaxing in it - we also have an ottoman but got it free with a promotion that was going on.

I always love sitting in a comfy glider...LO is our first so I can't speak from personal experience but I would love to own one with an ottoman

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
here is how I figured out if a glider was a must for me:
am i the kind of person to sit quietly rocking a newborn for a great length of time? do I get motion sickness?
or, do you see yourself cuddling your newborn but also doing a million things at any given moment, multi-tasking and such?

For me, it wasn't a must as a newborn, but now that my son is a toddler, our bedtime routine includes reading a few books in the glider. We always fed him on the couch.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
I never had one and dont plan to get one now either (baby # 4).
I dont see myself sitting in one spot for very long, and if I do, it will be on the couch with the kids around me and the tv, lol.
I dont follow many rules, so im not one to listen to I hate doing "what everyone else does" or what the stores tell us to buy.
I just see it as a big marketing game for the companies selling to mommies to be.
dont mean to be a party pooper lol.
if you have the space for one, and really want one, go for it though.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
well, I'm not a BTDT mom since baby girl still hasn't made her appearance, but honestly I think a rocker would be FINE!! Some babies don't even do well with gliders OR rockers and need to be walked around with (I've worked with a number of infants so I speak from experience). I totally agree with you on how unnecessarily EXPENSIVE they can be. However, I did get a good one from Walmart I could suggest. Only $140 and super cute & comfy.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
Not a BTDT but a glider was a must for me since baby will go in the crib and I will be nursing from day one. I wanted something to nurse and relax in in the middle of the night.
That said, I think a rocker will do the trick as well. No need to go crazy over an expensive glider.
Would you be willing to buy used? I saw a lot on Craigslist when I was looking.

We purchased one from Target as well. It's the best item we have. DS drinks his bottle on our lap and we read him books while on the glider before bed time. It helped with his gas issues and helped put him to sleep. If we could have gotten a rocker I would. But we couldn't beat the price for the glider of $200.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
DS is 14 months and I still use the glider everyday.
We didn't want to spend $$ on one so I found a great one on craigslist for $40! You can find replacement cushions online for pretty cheap too.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
IMO Yes definitely I absolutely love my glider and still use it every night and day to give DS his bottles (he is 16mths) In the beginning it was a lil difficult to BF after my C-section but it got easier. One of the main reasons why I love it so much is during the middle of the night feedings when DS woke up it was great to have a place to sit and nurse or give him a bottle and then rock him back asleep again. I hated carrying him out of his room bc I felt like it would wake him up completely and make it harder to get back to sleep. We made the horrible mistake of sitting on the couch and giving him a bottle with the tv on and then would wonder why he wouldn't go back down...DUH the tv overstimulated him. Don't do that
HTH!
P.S. this is mine love it!!!!Glider

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
A must-have, but you don't have to spend $700. I bought mine off either Target or Walmart (can't remember) for around $150. It's the same thing they sell in BRU for more than that. It's got the chair and the ottoman. It's not a full upholstered one, but it works for me. It was essential for middle of the night feedings and we still read to DS in it at night.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
I did not have one with DD, I had a really pretty upholstered rocker and it was useless.
With DS, I got a cheap glider at Walmart for $150 and it was worth every penny.

Still use my glider everyday an DD is 2
We even bought a 2nd one for room...
The only thing I got different this time was we bought glider that locks in the recline position...I spent so many nights wishing my other one did that

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
I was so on board with getting one, DH was more skeptical. We were in BBB one day and we're in front of the gliders and he goes, "We just don't have the room for this, do we REALLY need one?", sits down on a glider and says, "OMG we need one of these."
There is a rocking chair that belonged to my great-great grandparents that has been passed down from generation to generation that I found out about after our glider conversation. My grandmother is giving it to us. So we lucked out with not having to spend the $$$, and I'm thrilled to have something that has been in my family for so long.

Re: BTDT Mama's: Is a glider a must?
I really like mine - we've gotten alot of use out of it. But I'm sure any rocking chair will do honestly... We didn't spend alot on ours though - well, we got it as a gift at the shower, but I think it was only $130 from Target.

I didn't have a rocking chair or glider and was fine without one. I must say I would like one but I really didn't need one.
