Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm too sleep-deprived and lazy to do a search lol. DD is 21 months old, and DS is 1 week. What did your toddler do while you were BF your newborn?? DS takes FOREVER to eat, and I feel bad for DD who has to entertain herself the whole time. Not to mention, she fell off the ottoman twice today and I'm afraid she's gonna hurt herself. TIA

Congrats on your new little one! Chat Icon

It is definitely tough trying to juggle the 2 in the beginning when they are nursing for so long and the toddler is adjusting to not being the only one getting the attention. My boys are 22 months apart, so I was in a very similar situation as you. I had to get really good at multitasking while nursing. I would often sit on the floor with my older son in his play area while nursing the baby. When they are that little, you can pretty easily hold them with one hand while they nurae, especially if you have a Boppy or something to lean your arm on. That gives you one free hand to interact with your toddler. It is definitely a juggling act that takes getting used to- for everyone! Another thing I tried to do was explain to my older one what was going on. I would explain that his brother couldn't eat big boy food like he could yet, and all he could have is mommy's milk. I kept him as informed as possible, and I really think it helped. I also asked him to help me whenever I could, which he loved! I would ask him to get the Boppy for me, or a burp cloth, things like that. I would often read books to him while nursing as well. HTH! Good luck, mama!

DD1 was 23 months when DD2 was born. I would sing interactive songs with her like the wheels on the bus and if your happy and you know it, and my version of each has like 10 verses to keep her busy, lol. She would help me sing and do all the motions - worked like a charm! GL, and know it will get easier soon.

Same.

And in the early days, I cut myself some slack and put Sofia the First or something on TV. My girls are exactly 2 years apart, so we were just aiming for survival at that point lol.

A friend has a special basket full of toys that her toddler only gets to use while mom is BFing. So now feeding times are like treats for the toddler because she gets her special basket. There was a (big) bead threading kit, a special stuffed animal, a really noisy interactive book, etc. in there.

Lol - how could I forget tv - that is our go to move. She can watch Disney Junior for hours!
