BTDT Ear infection moms

So, my little DD (17 months) has had a continuous ear infection since mid-August. She finished her 3rd antibiotic for the same infection on Sunday. When the ped saw her when they prescribed the 3rd antibiotic, they referred us to an ENT, and we have an appointment tomorrow. However, we went back to the ped yesterday for a recheck and she STILL has the ear infection! We go to Grello Pediatrics, and saw Dr Ciro, who's kind of a "know it all" and he told me flat out, "This is beyond my area of expertise. See the ENT ASAP." In the meantime, they put us back on the Augmentin as a prophylactic, to keep the infection from getting worse.

Does anyone have any experience with an ear infection that won't go away? As a kid, I had chronic ear infections, but they would go away with the antibiotic and then come back a week or 2 later. I needed tubes at 6.

I'm sure they will be able to answer my questions at the ENT tomorrow, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience with this... TIA!!!

My newphew went thru this at a yound age..before two.. he had tubes put in.

I haven't. Whenever we had an ear infection not clear up, the ped prescribed a stronger antibiotic.

6 different antibiotics! only one with an adverse reaction thank god.

Hopefully the ENT will help you with a ear drop instead of oral antibiotic. I know that make me feel less anxious about all the drugs I was giving her.

I had ear infections a LOT as a kid. A few times they actually went in and sucked all the fluid out. Odd feeling but better than harboring the infection.

I've had tubes about 4times in my lifetime. Even now I have fluid in my ears and I'm experiencing vertigo/dizziness because of it. Doc said it was viral so maybe it something going around. Recovery time? 6-8 weeks!! So if an adult gets it we have better drainage set up as our 'tubes' have matured enough to drain properly but if a baby gets it, they don't have the proper drainage yet so it gets infected and STAYS infected. Which is why he wanted me to watch my kiddo. Thankfully AJ has tubes she has a drainage system installed

My son just got his first ear infection and because of this thread I called to schedule a recheck!! I don't know whey the doctor didn't tell me to do when I was there and not sure why I didn't even think of a recheck. Hope it all goes well and no more ear infections!!
