I'm not a c-section mom, but have had both.
DD1- epi. Didn't work, so it was basically natural. (It didnt work because I have a fused spine and I knew there was only a 50/50 shot of it working)
DD2-they put in epi without medicine and did a spinal at the same time. They said if I hadnt delivered when the spinal wore off, they would start meds through the epi to see if it would work. But, I had my baby about 1.5 hours after the spinal.

I had a spinal because I didn't have an epidural when I was in labor. Actually, I didn't have a choice. They told me I'm getting a spinal. I had my csection at 8pm and was not allowed to get out of bed till noon the next day with the spinal.
