BTDT... 2 year olds and you have a pool?

We have an above ground pool. I have a lot of anxiety about even having it open with my girls at this age because they are very strong climbers and VERY persistent. They started climbing out of their cribs at 19 months. They steal chairs and climb my tables, kitchen counters, windows, and couches. They literally have hung from my chandelier. I didn't want to even open my pool this year because I am terrified they will scale my deck gates and drown.

We also have a safety rail on the pool and a gate to block them from the yard but I am still scared that someone will forget to close it. I got an alarm for the pool but it goes off ALL. THE. TIME. usually around 1am or some other horrible time of day/night. I am going to return it and try a different one (any suggestions?)

I want them to learn how to swim and get to the sides of the pool or get to the steps etc.. I have a swim instructor coming on friday for lessons but I am wondering... what do you think they can learn at this age?

We have an inground pool with a safety fence. I know how you feel. Pool scares the sh^& out of me. Always make sure the gate is locked when we are out and I don't take my eyes off of my boys. I have a 4 and almost 2 yr old.
Just started swim class with my 2 yr old at the Y. It's cute and interactive. It's songs dealing with moving your body in the water... row row your boat then wheels on the bus. Learningt to go in and out of the water safely, kicking, paddling, etc.
Just started so not sure how much he can really learn to swim.
I never take the boys in the water when by myself. I hardly go in though. LOL

Then call ISR. Its expensive but they can teach your kids rescue swimming in a few weeks.

The safest thing for them is swimming lessons. I am not a fan of fences because I feel that it gives them and us a false sense of security. I only say that because at one point we had a fence around our old inground pool. We were inside the pool area and DS took off his floaties to eat. When we were done we were all sitting around and DH jumped in. I was watching DS and he forgot to put his floaties back on and jumped in. A fence didn't help me. When we would have company people would either close the gate but not all the way or forget all together. When we redid the patio we didn't put a fence back. In our new home we do not have a fence. My kids are 2, 6, 7 and never go out with out me and when we are out do not go by the pool.

We also have an above ground pool. My girls are almost 3 and 1. We have a fence, alarm (also goes off constantly), a safety ladder with a roll down no climb barrier. I'm very freaked out! I didn't really want the pool but my dh did. My oldest is in swimming lessons now. Obviously the best thing is supervision and Iam always watching them. What I really hate is both of neighbors have inground pools with no fence no alarm.

Swimming lessons.
we have an inground with a two year old. We did lessons last year..they taught her to swim to the nearest ledge after being dropped in.

The pool has a separate fence and every time we go ingot he backyard I reiterate no pool without mommy or daddy. It's impossible for her to climb the fence

swimming lessons are best - especially based on life saving skills -swimming to edge and pulling out of the pool -

I know how you feel I let the kids in our pool for the first time this week - I have twins that are 22 months and 3.5 year old - I require them all to have some type of floatation but I am struggling with the twins - in the life jacket they can't move well and the puddle jumper they float onto their face- onto water wings

we put in a power cover - the cover is strong enough to hold a person - but the problem can be standing water on it at times is also a danger- there is no perfect solution - but generally it protects the pool when closed- so I only open after each child has there life jacket or puddle jumper or whatever floatation I require
