BTDT & Moms of 3 month olds....
Are your babies eating cereal yet? Mine are eating so much formula, that the doctor suggested it...she usually waits until 6 months, but when she found out how much mine were eating, she decided to have them try now.
They seem to love it...but according to the American Pediatrics -- babies who start solid foods before 6 months can wind up with food allergies and skin problems such as excema.
I am now unsure if I should continue with the cereal...it doesn't seem to be helping them sleep...although I hear that is an old wive's tale anyway!
Any advice?

I'm not sure if cereal is considered a "solid" food - I do know that it adds calories and makes the babies feel fuller.
My ped will start us on cereal at 4 months.
Is your ped going to just keep them on the cereal longer - until the point when they would normally start on food?
Also - how much formula were they eating?

We started right before 4 months and EMily did end up having Eczema but I think she would have gotten it anyway.
I may wait until 5 months though with my next. My sister waited until 6 months, and it's probably just coincidence but her daughter is just a better eater then mine now. Mine barely likes to eat and is a skinny minny!

We started Ava at three months to help her reflux. I've actually read that new studies show that introducing solids EARLIER can help prevent allergies. Other than her milk allergy, which has been since birth, she has taken to everything with no problem. Oh, avocado, but other than that, no allergies.

my ped started Jack at 4 months. He's just finishing his 1st week on rice cereal and he loves it. I'm excited, we start barley tomorrow!!

My PED recommeended it for Matthew.
We first started rice cereal, then oatmeal(which he LOVES)
Now we are on fruits and vegs.

My ped suggested the same thing, because they too were drinking too much formula. I only put the cereal in one bottle during the day. This has lessen the intake of formula, because they are fuller. good luck!

RJ was drinking alot of formula @ 3 months so we tried cereal a few nights....
He was up all night everynight screaming.... So I figured his little belly just wasnt ready for it, I tried again @ 4 months and he did wonderfully...
He has no food allergies- none that we know of at least
I say give it a try- your baby will let you know if he/she is ready or not...
No matter what one organization says- another one contradicts it- with some things you gotta go w/ your gut and some trial and error!

We started at four months and no issues thus far. If they enjoy it, then I don't think it's a huge problem...

I started at 2 months due to reflux and he couldnt handle it. Too much gas.. so i tried again at 4 months.. still couldnt handle it.. again at 5 months.. still NO... and finally at 6 months he tolerated it. My ped was starting to think he had celiac disease, but it was just a immature digestive tract. Good luck!

With Jack I started at 5 or 6 months. With Molly, my doc is recommending no earlier than 6 months. She drinks about 26-30 ounces a day, so at this point I'm comfortable with her just on formula.

We started cereal at 3 months and then fruits & veggies soon after.
He hated the rice cereal so we gave him oatmeal.
Now he loves the rice cereal 5 months later.

Sophie is 3 months and still on formula. How much are your 3 month olds drinking? Sophie drinks approx. between 22 and 26 ounces a day.

Steven is 2 1/2 months and drinks at least 32 ozs a day and the ped. did not mention cereal. I did put it in one of his bottles at night though, because he eats 8 ozs and looks for more He had a really bad eczma flare up, so I didn't do that again. But, he has eczema to begin with. I did this 2 weeks ago, when he was 2 months exactly.

we started at 3 1/2 months and our dr was ok with it. Jiavana is 5 mths and is going through the intro to different veggies stage. I heard there are pros and cons of waiting and not waiting.
