Breast pump questionS
Do you sterilize the stuff after each use like the instructions say?
Is it normal to get more milk from one boob over the other?
How long do you usually pump for?
Do you put it in the fridge right when your done and can you mix the milk?
Sorry so many questions. This is all new to me and my sister gave me her pump she got from the hospital, which is awesome. Just got to figure out how it works and all and we bought all our own stuff and sterilized.

After each use I just threw the parts in the dishwasher (cups/bottles)
I would pump about 20 minutes a session
Yes I usually got more from one boob (forget which).
I would put in the fridge if I was using that day or else I would freeze in Lansinoh bags (lay them flat to store more).
You can mix milk; but not warm (freshly pumped milk) & cold milk.

No, I always just cleaned the parts with hot, soapy water.

It happens to me. I always get more from my left side.
How long do you usually pump for?
I would pump until nothing came out. Sometimes it was like 15-20 minutes and sometimes it was like 8 or 9 minutes.
Do you put it in the fridge right when your done and can you mix the milk?
I would usually put it right in the freezer unless I needed it that day. I always mixed the milk.

I found a trick on one of the websites. You can rise the parts with warm water, then stick them in the fridge. Then I sterilize each night (when I was pumping alot )
Not sure if its normal but I have always gotten more from my left side. when I was BF and pumping 100% of the time I would get nearly double.
I do put it in the fridge right after unless I plan on using it for the next feeding. I heard you can mix however not to mix at different temps.
I got the pkg of 2.5oz bottles to pump into. So I can gnenerally fill those each in a session. Then I will mix when I freeze.
I pump for about 20 minutes.
I am by no means an expert as I have only been doing this for 3 months, but I have found alot of info from this website. Even if you arent EP you can gain alot from it.
Exclusively pumping.

I put everything in the dishwasher after I use it. I bought the accessory set, so I have extras of everything. Handwashing with dish liquid is fine too.
I get more milk from my right than my left. It weirds me out, but it's normal and pretty common.
I pump for 15 minutes.
Milk goes from my body into a container in the fridge. I generally don't mix milk from different sessions, but you can (as long as one isn't much older than the other). Don't mix cold milk with warm, fresh-from-the-tap milk.

How long do you usually pump for? I pumped for about 5-10 minutes a side. I would try to get two letdowns per breast.
Do you put it in the fridge right when your done and can you mix the milk? You are supposed to if you are not feeding it within a few hours. You are not supposed to mix the milk. Again, I did.

I rinsed and then put them in a tupperware container in the fridge. Then 1x/24 hours I washed them in warm water and put them in the Medela Steam Sanitizing bags for the microwave.

Always got more from the left...unless I had a plug on the right that just released.

I put it right in the fridge and rotated the bottles.....more recent pump in the back and then took the bottles from front to back. I would freeze leftovers.
I also bought some cheap bottles to use for storage and I combined milk from sessions. I combined fresh milk into the containers right out of the fridge. Never had a problem, I know a lot of women that did this without issue.
It took me a little while to come up with the best system and I panicked a few times thinking that I would never figure it out, but eventually I did and it started working out. Then I decided to stop pumping so that I could sleep better etc. Go figure!

If you are planning on pumping a few times a day...the easiest thing I did was after I pumped...I wiped off the milk with a paper towel and then stuck the parts in a zip lock in the fridge and used the same parts throughout the day.

YES! I had a super left boob! It always produced 2-3 times more than my right boob. It was always twice the size as my right one .
How long do you usually pump for? At the beginning I only pumped to relieve engorgement....so only for a few min. When I went back to work I did 20 minutes.

I never sterilized after the first time. I just washed everything in hot, soapy water. Every once in a while I did the fridge trick.
I always got more from my right than my left. It's totally normal to get more from one side.
I used to double pump for 10-15 minutes after the morning feeding.
As for leaving milk out, sometimes I left it out for a few hours and other times I put it in the fridge right away. You can mix milk as long as both are at the same temperature. If you have two refrigerated milks, you can mix them together. But, you're not supposed to mix freshly pumped milk (warm) with refrigerated milk.
