Bread and Milk
I don't get this whole "bread and milk" thing. If anything, you will be stuck in your house for one day, two the most in all my days on this earth (which is a long time as I am old lololol). (and basically once you shovel out, you can go out). Do people literally have NOTHING in their houses to eat that they will STARVE for one day? lol.

Re: Bread and Milk
I just make sure to have certain ingredients in the house so I can cook and bake all day. When we're stuck inside for a snowstorm I love to make yummy comfort food and bake with the kids. I always have "bread and milk" so that is not an issue for me!

Bread and Milk
For me - I always have a fairly well stocked pantry/fridge, but with a toddler, I definitely make sure I have extra milk just in case. And as far as loading up on goodies, part of the fun of being snowed in is having tons of yummy food to munch on, cook or bake.

Bread and Milk
Depending on where you live it can be alot longer than 1 day. The last really big snowstorm we were stuck for almost 5 days because they blocked our street with a wall of snow to clear off the main roads. It doesn't hurt to be prepared but there is no need to panic.

Re: Bread and Milk
I don't get it either. the problem is I normally go food shopping at the end of the week and I really do need milk and bread. we go through a lot of it at my house. and my son will have a complete melt down if there is no milk. now I wont be extra just because there is a storm coming I will just buy my normal amount.
I assume some people are in my situation and other just freak out.

Yes!
Bread and milk do me no good as I use neither on a good day, much less in a snow storm!
My daughter doesn't drink milk and neither do we. I once had to buy a quart of milk for a recipe, just needed a cup, and the rest went bad. I can never imagine having a gallon in the house!

Re: Bread and Milk
Definitely wine and chocolate! I am going to order grocery delivery to come tomorrow night, probably, since I usually go shopping on the weekend.
Also - not on topic, but in the past when I have just needed a cup of milk, if you have access to a cafeteria-type place (in your office or whatever), they usually have the little cartons of milk they have in schools.

Re: Bread and Milk
It is always so annoying when it happens on a Monday as I do my normal food shopping on the weekend so I have to run first to get bread and milk and then I just calmly walk around doing my regular shopping.
These idiots are running around like it is the end of the world.
I LOVE Vic as he is right on it with all his videos.
I get some people drink a lot of milk and some were stuck for a few days when they did not get plowed out but to go so crazy is just ridiculous. This is not the 1800's, you CAN get out without starving to death first lol.

Re: Bread and Milk
Realistically, I think the only people running around like lunatics before a snowstorm are the ones whose house is devoid of food because they haven't shopped in forever and need EVERYTHING in case they get plowed in. I'm always stocked with what we need on a daily basis plus all the essentials so it can pretty much snow unannounced any day of the week and I'd be fine.

Re: Bread and Milk
I guy a gallon a week, mostly for cereal. The one I got last week is good until the 25th so I think we will be fine if I can't get there until after Monday lol

That is pretty sad then as that is A LOT of people. In 1996 my dh and I went on our regular shopping trip and the line wrapped around the grocery store. We actually got the last gallon of milk at a gas station on the way home. It was ridiculous.
People are insane and the media hypes things up way too much.
A foot of snow is not going to keep you stuck in the house for very long.
When we got over 2 feet, my dh was out that day going to 7/11 for non essentials as he can't stay in the house for very long lol.

Bread and Milk
Just to clarify, I don't have kids, hence the wine and chocolate comment. I need milk for my coffe, can drink it black if I have to.
DH and I did a big shop yesterday, my fridge was echoing and pantry was starting to empty.

Bread and Milk
DH and o just discussed groceries this morning. I usually shop on the weekends but will avoid the store at all costs if it snows. We have enough frozen meat and veggies, a gallon of milk and bread in the freezer (shows how often we eat it). We'll be fine to stretch the grocery shopping until next weekend if needed. I don't get the bread and milk rush either.

I always shop for my full week on friday nights but we are probably going to run out tonight instead so we dont have to hassle with the people or weather this weekend.

Re: Bread and Milk
I always food shop on Friday. I figured the stores will be a mad house on Friday so I did peapod for pick up on Friday. I wanted to to pick up tomorrow but I guess everyone was thinking like I was and there are no slots until friday afternoon. I do not want to be in the store when everyone is getting their milk and bread.

Re: Bread and Milk
I went shopping yesterday. I bought milk. I did not buy bread because I have some already, which for me is rare. I have work this weekend so I bought food essentials in case I get stuck at work. I also was running low in my freezer supply.
