BPA Question
Ok, so they have these BPA free bottles, right? Which is wonderful...
but, most people use bottled water to make their baby's formula, right? So, do you think that bottled water never sits in a warehouse that is a tad too warm and i am pretty sure that water bottles are not BPA free...
so, for the formula part of feeding babies... aren't BPA free bottles null and void when water for formula comes from a bottle of water?

pretty much.. just like if you feed your child those baby foods in plastic. The food is warm when they put it in the plastic which not BPA free.. so the bpa is leaking into the food.
The bpa in the bottles is only dangerous if you warm the formula in the bottle.
eta: even if the bottle water didnt get warm at warehouse, im sure it when it was shipped by plane or truck.. those carts arent airconditioned.

Well my understanding is that every time it is heated it can release the toxins in the plastic so basically it is damage control. There is only so much we have control over so why not at least start with that. I believe the temperature has to be quite high anyway, hopefully not atemp a bottle of water in a warehouse would reach.

I think that you have to do what is right for you and your child...and not everyone uses bottled water. Tap or boiled is just fine.

although I don't understand why you'd use bottled water to make formula - just another expense.
if you're worried use a brita filter. more economical and better for the environment.

After the graduate class my coworkers took on the state of the water on long island, there is NO way I would drink tap water or make bottles with it.
ESPECIALLY if you live within 3 miles of a golf course

Any soft plastic that is heated is going to have BPA in it. Most of us heat up stuff in Chinese Food containers and Tupperware dishes that have not been deemed microwave safe. I sold Tupperware for almost 3 years. Porous plastics are dangerous. We were always told that Chinese food containers, when heated release carcinogens and that is how we always sold the Rock N Serve line of products which IS truly microwave safe - not to mention they do not stain. I have a closet full of them and I highly recommend them to anyone who regularly heats ANYTHING in a microwave.
This leads me to the ultimate question...how many of us worry about our OWN health with carcinogens and BPA? Something to think about.

Jen, out of curiousity what class was this? I have taken many classes on LI Groundwater.
The water that is being polluted is not used now. The water we are using is 1000's of years old. What we have to worry about is the future. If we keep polluting the way we are, there will be major groundwater issues.
Also - many people don't realize this, but the regulations on tap water are much more stringent than on bottled water. In fact, there are no regulations on bottled water - someone could fill a bottle with dirty puddle water and sell it to you.
I think if someone is concerned about nasty stuff in the water, the best thing to do is to get a filter.

hmm never thought of this. I drink bottled water only , and I do microwave plastic, that can't be good. Meanwhile I only registered for BPA Free bottles. We rely on plastic so much

This is swhy I dont use the microwave, or plastic food containers! It was all just a thought I had in relation to the BPA free hype... i still plan on useing BPA free bottles/glass bottles myself, I agree the more cautious we are the better!

Honestly, unless you have serious concerns about your water supply, I would ONLY use tap water anyway. Boil it when they are very young and then just straight from the tap as they get older. This water is tested to be safe, while bottled is NOT. JMO...

I will ask them. The life science teachers took it as professional development. They sent me a bunch of links to articles..Ill see if i still have the email.
As far as the golf course thing..Yes.. it has to do with the RIDICULOUS chemicals they use to keep the greens healthy.
I just cant drink tap water.. it tastes horrible to me. I will use the brita or bottled.

I went to to a tupperware party recently and she had a handout about BPA and which containers contained it. All the Rock n serve ones had BPA - the rest of the line was BPA free. Inclluding the kids toys. I remember b/c I was going to buy one of those Big packages that contain everything, but once I saw the rock n serves had BPA - I didn't buy it. I also went home and threw out the one rock n serve i already had...

yep! same goes for canned food (BPA in the sealant when the lid is attached).
that's why we drink brita water  And scone's bottles will be all glass, and his bowls / eating utensils will be stainless steel 
oh, and did you hear the recent scandalous report? apparently the FDA recently revisted the BPA issue. They refused to consider research conducted by the national institutes of health (academic researchers that are unbiased) and instead based their conclusions SOLELY on reports generated by US chemical companies like DuPont (all biased, of course!). Shockingly, they decided that BPA is not a health risk  Who could have forseen that?!
I swear we need all gov't agencies to sink into the primordial slime and start over. they're all so bought-out and corrupt at this point
