Boy Moms
PLEASE give me all of your potty training tips!!
I trained my DD easy peasy in 3 days flat when she potty training but I feel like I don't know what to do with my son. The little peeshie is throwing me!!! LOL
Do I:
Face him forward on the potty to pee Face him backward on the potty to pee Teach him to pee using a the kids training urinal
HELP!! I just want to make it as easy as possible on him. Lately he's asking about the potty a lot and he's excited to try it out but I'm just not sure of the best method to teach him how to pee. Thanks so much!

Re: Boy Moms
When training my son we had him sitting down face forward and he just points his pee pee down. Then a few weeks later he wanted to go like daddy so my dh showed him what to do standing up. We did 3 day method and its worked great.

Re: Boy Moms
We used the froggy potty that has a splash guard. LOL! Started with him sitting down bc he was too small to stand for the regular toilet. Plus, I didn't trust his aim. Taught him to hold his pee pee down also then tap after to make sure the drips go in. After some time he sat on the regular toilet and pushed it down. Since the toilets at school are small he was standing up going and then one day he just stood and that's all he does. Remember when they poop they pee too so gotts teach him to push his pee pee down when making a poop too. LOL!
DS2 started on the froggy potty and was taller than DS1 at that age so stood pretty fast bc his brother and dad stood. I should add DS2 has the worst aim.

The funny thing is, I tried sitting him on the potty I pushed his peesh down and he started laughing hysterically and kept saying it tickled. This is going to be a looooong road.

I have cleaned more pee up in my bathroom over the last few years than ever in my life!!!!
And since i have to travel for work...when I get back its like they went crazy peeing all over....toilet, floor, wall!!!!
My DS doesn't turn the light on and loves to chat with you if you are in the bathroom so he won't watch what he is doing.

Same. In fact, he's 5 now and prefers sitting! Also, don't count on it being a long road--everyone tried to tell me the same thing with my son, especially because I had two girls first; he was trained by 2 years 9 months, the same as DD1 and 3 months earlier than DD2! I actually thought he was the easiest...

DS 1 sat and DS 2 stood. Whatever works!
It was a long road to get them to agree to use the potty but, the actual training was really quick for both of them.

We skipped the sitting part and went straight to standing. He stood on his step stool and did fine. Then we taught him that when he has to poop he has to push his penis down to pee too. We never had an issue with him doing both. It's what worked for us.

Re: Boy Moms
I tried the three day method with my oldest at 2.5, waste of time.
I waited until 3 and would ask only once a day if he wanted to sit on the potty and placed him down. If he resisted I took him off right away. I would tell him that if he peed he would get M&ms. (A whole handful, not just one!). We didn't go this for that long and one day he just peed and pretty much never went back. We had a handful of poop accidents as I went straight to underwear with pull ups only at night for 1-2 weeks (I think). Then he was completely trained even at night (no pull ups.
My 2nd son was the exact same way and I knew not to even try the 3 day again.

Re: Boy Moms
Trained him sitting down. He now sometimes pees standing up but was too little at first. When he is older and peeing standing up more often someone told Me to put a cheerio or m&m in toilet and tell him to aim.

Re: Boy Moms
My ds sits the normal way.
The only advice I have is get one of those seats that attaches to the regular potty and use it from the get go. The separate potty is just another thing to clean.

DS started peeing sitting down but quickly wanted to stand. He has a stool in front of the toilet and what he does is stand on the stool and bends over and holds the toilet tank. Perfect angle for aiming. So far so good with missing.
We also bought the toilet seat that has the kids seat integrated. He loves it cause he's not afraid of falling in. It also has the nice easy close so no worries of the seat slamming on him.

Re: Boy Moms
Personally I wanted them to learn standing up for a 2 reasons:
1. Don't have to worry about public bathrooms "don't touch, don't sit, don't move, don't BREATHE" etc. 2. Once less transition to teach later on
I didn't stress over potty training or push them to be trained by a certain time. They both showered interest really early - so I made it available, and that was it ......interest ......Nothing more.
They were both 3.5 when they starting using the potty, but, both of them, were done. It was day 1, diaper, day 2 potty - end of story. No 'pee but not poop trained' no diaper in the car, no diaper to bed etc etc. - I didn't want to deal w/ that confusion - so in our house it was all or nothing at 3.5

This!
I'm currently potty training my 2yo twins and they sit on the potty. I taught my older son to do the same and once he was fully trained, he just started atanding on his own.
