Body wave?

Do people still get body waves? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm thinking for the summer I'd like to just be able to wash my hair and let it air dry and leave it down and not pull it back into a pony every day (my usual summer look). The only problem is that my hair has random waviness that is not consistent all over my head and within 2 hours, it's totally flat and lifeless. Over the winter, I straighten with a flatiron, but want to avoid that in the warmer weather. I'm thinking a body wave would give it some wave and volume and I wouldn't have to do much to it after showering...

Thoughts? Am I totally going old school with this? Chat Icon

Re: Body wave?

Sorry hun... I haven't heard that term in a long time.

What about getting it Brazilian straightened? My SIL does this. Just can't wash her hair for a few days, but she has it straightened and then it always dries stick straight. She rarely has to blow dry it.

Re: Body wave?

They still do them at the salon I go to. They don't smell nearly as bad as they used to!

And I go to a pretty modern salon too. No Grandma Mary's with blue curly hair!

I can see where you're coming from. I wish I had the natural waves. Usually I just throw my hair back in the summer on the weekends.

Re: Body wave?

Last year I got a perm with the largest roller size (which I think is the equivalent to a body wave) and I LOVED IT......for about 2 months. I actually got more compliments on my hair during that time than ever before or since, but you will need to get your hair trimmed every few weeks so the curl doesn't get weighed down and then when the roots start to grow in it just looks silly (which I guess is the same for any hair treatment so the roots need to be fixed). I just couldn't deal with the maintenance of it.

I think they call that a loose perm instead of a body wave now.

Wow V-that is retro! Chat Icon

I would do brazilian straightening instead-you get the straight hair with the body!

I have no idea about body waves!

Re: Body wave?

I have heard it- they call it a texture wave now.
If you are looking to get body and waves it's great.
My hair is fine and very very flat.
I used to get them to give me some oomph.
Brazilian would NEVER work on hair like mine.

You have to be VERY sure the person you go to understands what you want and that they use the LARGEST rollers possible.
I agree- it can be very scary!

Agree! I brought tons of pics of curly hair I like and also some pictures of frizzy hair I did not like (and made sure to emphasize that I wanted big curls for body, not frizzy poodle puff - lol)
