BJ's--what is and is not worth getting from your experience?
we just rejoined BJ's after not being a member for several years. i remember there were only a few things i would actually buy there because i could get them cheaper per item other places.
what are some things that you think are definitely worth getting there?
what are some things you think can be gotten much cheaper--say at target, etc?
i'm going to start comparison shopping, but i'd love to hear what you've discovered!

Re: BJ's--what is and is not worth getting from your experience?
i can tell you what is better there based on the brands we buy
pampers are cheaper there, as are the diaper genie II refills.
we get beachnut jarred food there at a great price, plus each one has a $1.50 coupon inside the box!
most meats - chicken breasts and thighs are pre-packaged in packs of two so you can toss them in the freezer, and they are usually either 99 cents a lb or 1.99 a lb.
toilet paper and paper towels
cases of soda (we go through seltzer like it's, well, water )
pasta, some sauces, and large jars of some foods - like artichoke hearts, which i wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, capers, olives, etc.
we also buy bread there, they come in packs of 2 so we freeze one.
ziploc bags, garbags bags, paper plates, plastic forks and spoons, detergent, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, meds like tylenol and ibuprofen (for babies and infants too).
IMO i would rather get these things from BJs than target because even in the rare case i pay a few cents extra, because the product is bigger it lasts longer which means fewer trips to the store

if you watch the coupon magazine (not just the book but the journal) they have coupons that give you more of a discount with certain items.. if you buy 3 is is 5 off, 4 it is 7 off...... the other day i bought three items, two were 6.99 and one was 4.99 and i got 5.00 off....

Regular price lean pockets always are cheaper there. Cereal. Paper goods. Kitty Litter.
Produce I tend to buy at meat farms, better quality and taste.
I still check out circulars. Like this week Barilla is on sale and meat farms which is a better a deal. We stocked up on Barilla Plus.

D'Italiano Italian Bread (~$3.99 at BJ's for two-pack, ~$3.39 elsewhere for one-pack).
Milk (usually about $1-2 cheaper per gallon).
Some cereals are cheaper (Cheerios), some aren't.
I got a microwave there that was $50 cheaper than it was on Amazon.
Chicken and steak tend to be cheaper.

Re: BJ's--what is and is not worth getting from your experience?
coffee olive oil most cleaning supplies/laundry soap garbage bags foil party goods like plastic utensils & plates chobani yogurt grated cheese bread nutrigrain bars fiber one bars good seasons salad dressing mix spices tampons some shampoos and soaps
the coupon book they send has really great coupons sometimes.
I find soda, water & paper products to be cheaper when they are on sale at the supermarket or CVS or walgreens. The same goes for pasta & canned veggies-cheaper on sale the food store.
The best way to maximize your membership is to stay out of the front aisles in the middle of the store. That's all crap you don't need & you'll blow your savings in those aisles.

Re: BJ's--what is and is not worth getting from your experience?
You should never pay more than .50 per roll of toilet paper, it has been my experience, that BJs is overpriced on this product... BJs brand or any other.
You can get Scotts at any supermarket (when on sale) 20 rolls for $9.99, i stock up then.
meat... that's the main reason i go there.
Also their bags of spinach, and broccoli crowns, milk and gas...
