Re: Birthdays then and now

I loved this. So in line with the post, I went to Carlo's Bakery (you know Buddy Valestro from TLC the Cake Boss). Well they opened a new shop in Morristown, NJ last week. So I took my friend there this morning for coffee and a pastry to celebrate her birthday. They had papers outlining that you could celebrate your DC's birthday there and are you sitting down? Cause it was $48 per child with a ten child minimum. While I think it would be a lot of fun and the cake tasted quite yummy, I could not get over the price quoted for a kids party.

The part about not severing a finger opening the can of cheese balls made me LOL. I definitely remember that dangerous canister of deliciousness.

And it's very true about girls bday parties today...it is not complete unless the bday girl is wearing a ginormous tutu.

Too funny! I made DH read it bc I was having a hard time convincing him that pizza and balloons with immediate family is all we need for DD's party. I guess we're living in the 70's!

Birthdays then and now

I think every item on the now parties has been discussed multiple times one here (weekly)!!!!!!

Can we please go back to the old way of parties. the new way is the reason why my DS is never having birthday parties!!!

Us too. I can't deal with that kind of stress.
I'd rather do nothing than have to have a party like that. I am not anal enough for that!

Re: Birthdays then and now

So funny. My parties are definitely somewhere in the middle. I enjoy throwing parties, and my DD did have a tutu for her first birthday, but no over the top cakes, candy tables, etc. I do enjoy having parties with friends and family.

Re: Birthdays then and now

Kids would be happy with any type of celebration as long as it's special and they are the center of attention. I give my girls parties I don't go nuts! I remember loving my birthday parties as a kid and we never had a candy Buffett or personalized goody bags. My mom baked cupcakes and ordered pizza and I was thrilled! Kids birthday parties have become like weddings.

Re: Birthdays then and now

I have been to very simple parties like posted. My kids enjoy them all the same. I lean toward home parties, and do a lot of extra special touches, but not to compete with anyone. I'm creative by nature, and enjoy doing it. Not looking to impress anyone other than my own child. I never understand the hatred toward the creative mommies. I see passive aggressive digs everyday on FB and the like. If you don't like fancy, don't do fancy. Kids don't care, and I don't care Chat Icon
