Honestly I would still give the same amount gift I would for a house party as this is the choice of the birthday man/woman to spend so much. If they were 40, I would give $40. 50, $50, etc.

My answer is going to be all over the place, but if it was for a "special" birthday (sweet 16, 40, 50 etc.) then I would give $100ish depending on how close I was to the person. If it is just a "normal" birthday then I would come with a bottle of wine or booze.
