Bfing moms- when can we stop waking to feed?

When I was in the hospital- the LC told me to feed DS every 1.5-2hrs and to wake to feed at the 3 hr mark if he was still sleeping...

I never really followed that as far as night time feeding goes... but during the day I do wake him to feed him between hours 2-3 , if he doesn't wake to eat on his own (a rarity during the day)

Up until what age/weight can I stop this, and just feed him when he is "asks" to be fed?

Also around what age do the babies go from eating every 2 hrs to every 3?

AS long as baby is gaining weight appropriately, you have enough wet and poopy diapers and there are no medical reason to wake to feed let the baby sleep and feed on demand.

THis being said you shouldn't let a BF baby under a month old go longer then 5 hours without feeding more than ONCE per day!!!

I never had to wake DS to feed. He nursed constantly around the clock the first month. Then he started going about 2-3 hours from 1-2 months. The last couple of weeks he's been consistantly going 3 hours & he's started sleeping a 6-7 hour stretch through the night. I don't wake him. He's gaining weight beyond fine & his diaper output is normal.

I never woke them up, day or night so I would say you can stop now. If you are waking him now every 2-3 hours he might be just give you cues or go a little longer. My DD always ate between 2-3 hours and fed on demand. The nights she really only woke up between 2-3 times a night.

I agree with the above. I never woke DS. (Okay, once I did when he slept through his baptism and entire party. My boobs were leaking through my dress and I needed relief. He was 7 weeks at that point.)

As long as the dr says everything is going well with weight gain and wet diapers, no need to wake.

My theory is never wake a sleeping baby!
