that's not true. you can really eat whatever you want as long as it's not bothering the baby. some babies are bothered by spicy or gassy foods, etc, but not all are. you should watch your caffeine intake though. as far as alcohol, as soon as it passes out of your blood it's out of your BM as well. So as long as you allow 1 hour per drink before BFing, you're fine.

NO! NO! NO!!! Sorry to sound so hostile, but this is a huge peeve of mine.
No, you do not have restrictions on what you can eat. Some babies are allergic to milk or soy, some get gassy from vegetables, most don't. I eat anything I want (literally for over a year because breastfeeding kept my at 5 lbs below my pre-preggo weight).
You can drink alcohol in moderation.
Please check out kellymom.com for some good, accurate information on breastfeeding and diet.

Re: BF Question
just like driving, don't drink and BF.... but as long as you don't have a buzz (wait an hour per drink), you can BF again. as it's metabolized from your blood, it's also removed from the milk.....
I intend to eat everything I want while BF'ing. I've read that babies are more receptive to foods they first 'tasted' in the third trimester, or while BF'ing. I bet if we eat a totally bland diet while BF'ing, we'll have fussy eaters later on

Re: BF Question
Just wanted to confirm that you do not have any restrictions on what you eat for breastfeeding (Although personally I'd keep avoiding the high mercury fish). Caution and moderation are suggested for caffeine and alcohol consumption. I'm BFing #2 now, and haven't found that what I eat matters at all to my baby's fussiness. There is the rare possibility that your child would have a sensitivity to dairy and such, but you'd find that out as you go along.

Re: BF Question
I forgot about the fish restriction -- I definately agree -- watch out for mercury in fish.
