BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
Did you only stick with a certain kind? My DD has been using soothies just like they gave her in hospital... I also found ones (soothies) for 3-6 months that are a little different but same idea. I gave her a playtex paci the other day but then it made me nervous bc I noticed her bottom lip wasn't fanned out along the bottom like when she takes the soothie AND when she feeds from my boob. Will her having any other paci than a soothie mess up her breastfeeding even tho she is over 3 months old? From day 1 she's had a good latch but I don't want to mess her up. Any info/experience is appreciated

BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
neither of mine took pacis (not for lack of trying!), so i have no experience, but one of mine took a bottle, with a regular nipple, around 3 months with no confusion. I think at the 3 month mark you're probably ok. i'd stick with the soothies or gumdrops anyway. I like that they are all one piece, so they are easy to clean. Why would you want to switch?

I used the Soothies with ds1 until he was 6m old, I think. I changed him over to Playtex Binkies at that point and we didn't have a problem with his nursing at all. He was a bit older, but I think that at 3m old you should be fine...

Re: BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
We did the soothies Wubanubb and he liked them until he was about 7 months old and now he will only take the Avent. He is OBSESSED with it! I never had any issues with giving him a pacifier and his nursing. Both kids did fine. I, personally, do not believe in nipple confusion and neither does my ped. Again that is just my opinion and based on my experience.

Dd had been only on soothies but one day when Dh and I went to pick her up from the inlaws ( they watch her) she had a different paci in her mouth. It was a mam one and I was worried too but it hasn't affected her latch and it stays in her mouth better than the soothie.

So far, DS will only take the soothies. We've tried a couple of other ones but he's not at all interested. He's had no issues latching and he started on the pacifier in the hospital.

Re: BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
DS used soothies in the hospital and when we first came home. Then they started to be too long for him (the nipple) I think and he no longer likes them. He likes NUK ones though. It has never affected his latch. But I purposely always gave him everything and never stuck with just one thing because I didnt want him to only be able to use ONE kind of nipple or only my breast, or only the bottle. or one kind of bottle, etc.
He has always been both BF and FF. Always gotten my breast, different bottles and all sorts of pacis.
No issues other than paci preference. Still latches well when I BF which is only once or twice a day.

Thanks ladies!! I was looking to switch bc DD has trouble keeping soothies in her mouth plus people have told me soothies for too long messed up their kids teeth, so I was curious about DD trying a different kind. Thanks so much... U guys were very helpful :)

My ds hated the soothies. He took to the nuk, and thats what we use. It never affected his latch.

Re: BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
AJ used that 0-3m Soothie from hospital until I took them away a year and a half later! No problems. She was late to teeth so no issues with her chewing it. I just made sure to watch it carefully. If it ever got worn or torn I'd have trashed it and got another one.
She never liked any other 'stage' of soothies. *shrug*
ETA: AJ's teeth were never affected. She NEVER liked the nuk type ones. Yes, I bf her for a few weeks. Every kid is different some like soothies others like nuks, some like pink others blue *shrug* who knows.

I started with the Soothie one, but switched to the Nuk by 2-3 months. DS held it in much better than the Soothie.

Re: BF moms who gave LO pacifiers....
We used avent ones.
Also, I was to.d by an LC at the hospital that she has not once in 30+ years seen any baby with nipple confusion, and it's not something she ever heard of in her education and thinks its something ped. Use as an excuse. For what that's worth....

We also switched to the NUK style and had no issues with continuing breastfeeding.
