From KellyMom:
A milk blister, or blocked nipple pore, is also called a bleb or nipple blister, or simply "milk under the skin." It occurs when a tiny bit of skin overgrows a milk duct opening and milk backs up behind it. A milk blister usually shows up as a painful white, clear or yellow dot on the nipple or areola (see photo), and the pain tends to be focused at that spot and just behind it. If you compress the breast so that milk is forced down the ducts, the blister will typically bulge outward. Milk blisters can be persistent and very painful during feeding, and may remain for several days or weeks and then spontaneously heal when the skin peels away from the affected area. _____________
I followed her treatment and ruptured it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I put Neosporin cream on it afterwards. It still stings because my shirt is hitting it but hopefully it will be better by the morning when I have to nurse again....although, pumping tonight is not going to be fun.

OUCHIE!!! i have had them a million times. they say they are common with mom's nursing multiples.
at times i have just suffered through them and other times i have tried to treat them. you can soak the nipple in a bowl with warm water and salt to help soothe it. i really think they just have to run their course and you kinda have to grit your teeth at each latch on.
all i can really recommend is that you just don't try to pick at it and don't not feed on the affected breast. you will complicate matters.
the kellymom site has info on them.
i hope you feel better soon!! i have many sympathy hugs for you.

Re: BF Mom's-anyone ever have a milk blister?
I am fighting a recurrent one on my left side I don't know why I am plaged with it. I have read all the articles on kellymom and I don't have any of the symptoms that they state would cause a recurrent one (no mastisis; no plugged ducts) I just keep getting it and clearing it up over and over again Mine mostly clears from hot water, nursing and pumping. (I haven't tried anything more agressive than that.)
I hope it clears up for you soon Isn't nursing with it the absolute worst!

ugh sorry!!
since it keeps happening on one side, could it be something to do with the baby's position on that side? like maybe the latch isn't as great on that side, if you aren't as comfortable holding dc on that side. i don't know, just a guess.
i hope you get a break from it soon!!

It's my less productive side and it's given me problems from the beginning. His latch does bother me on that side. (He's latched on correctly. I did SO much research on latching in the beginning related to other problems I had and also met with an LC back then.) Sometimes his teeth really bother me on that side. I think that the milk doesn't flow nearly as fast as the right side and that he's $ucking a lot harder and maybe working his mouth more to get the milk. (He has 2 top and 2 bottom teeth.)

Re: BF Mom's-anyone ever have a milk blister?
Thia-ironically it's on my less productive sidde too AND the less comfortable side for me. It's the worst.
Have you tried carefully rupturing it at the base by "pulling" down with a needle? Then I cleared the skin away so it could heal. I put Neosporin on it and then some APNO cream that I had. I would have some of that mixed up at the pharmacy if you can Come to think of it, that's probably what sped up the healing. I hope it feels better soon!!
Lisa-Thanks! You're the best!
