Best Toddler Swim Aid?

Looking to order DD something for the summer, she will be 2. What have you found is the best? Those puddle jumper products that go on their arms and across their chest? A traditional life jacket? A "bubble" that straps around their chest? This will be mostly for the pool and occasionally if we went to the beach. Curious to hear all opinions? TIA!

Best Toddler Swim Aid?

Definitely the puddle jumper. DD wore it at 2 years old. It was great at keeping her afloat and her head up.
I believe it is coast guard approved.
Some beaches don't allow floatation devices. I asked a lifeguard once and they said because Some parents think if their kids have some sort of device that they can walk away and not pay attention! True story!
Tobay and crab meadow allowed the puddle jumper.

I like the puddle jumper. If you plan on using it at the beach make sure whatever you get is coast guard approved. The puddle jumper is.

Re: Best Toddler Swim Aid?

Probably the puddle jumper but my DD really doesn't like anything I put on her.
She freaks out
So it's a challenge to get her in the water.

Glad I'm not the only one - people look at me like I'm insane.

DS 1 is now 4 and finally started using a noodle without us holding him at swim class (but is a nut in a kiddie pool where he can stand). DS 2 won't even put on a swim diaper or bathing suit without freaking out right now.

Another vote for puddle jumper! My Dd was 2 last summer and lived in it! Plus, they can't get it off themselves bc it buckles in the back. It's less bulky than a life vest, so Dd could actually move in it and not just float there.

Another vote for the puddle jumper. Just make sure to look at the weight limits.

She's the same. Even with the puddle jumper on she will not let me take my hands off of her. She is so afraid and freaks out if I am not holding on to her.
I am hoping this summer will be better.

I like the puddle jumper too. Last summer we tried the fisher price learn to swim life vest and it was awesome! My dd loved having her arms free.

Best Toddler Swim Aid?

We just use regular swimmies. I feel like they teach her to kick her legs under the water to keep her up more. She has been wearing them since she was 1.5 and has done excellent.

Puddle jumper. The one we have is rated for open water too, which was a must for us since it's mostly used at the beach.
She can swim and move easily in it, and you know it's going to keep them afloat, so it's less worrying.

Re: Best Toddler Swim Aid?

I tried everything with my twins last summer. They were tiny 20lb and 22m old. The puddle jumper was AMAZING!!!!!! in 5 days they were swimming across the pool confidently with it on.
